The Peewee Select team recently completed a 4 game series with the Duluth JR Thrashers PW A Team.  On Oct 3 Greenville hosted the Duluth team for our first two games of the season.  The Grrrowl struggled while being shorthanded for large portions of the games and dropped both by scores of 7-1 and 6-1.  The team traveled to Duluth on Oct 17th for a return match and although playing a much stronger game, lost the first game 4-1.   In the second game, the team came out and played strong for all three periods surprising the Duluth team by taking a 1-1 tie into the last minute of play.  Unfortunately, in a flurry of shots on goal at the end of the game, the Duluth team was able to score and win the game in a 2-1 heartbreaker.

The team opens their CHL season this Saturday in Charlotte with games against Charlotte, Winston-Salem, and Augusta.

The Upstate Sports Bantams will honor fallen US Army soldier and Medal of Honor recipient Sergeant First Class Jared C Monti.  Then Staff Sergeant Monti was killed during an ambush by insurgents high in the mountains of eastern Afghanistan on June 21, 2006.  On September 17, 2009, SFC Monti became only the 6th soldier to receive the Medal of Honor, the highest medal of valor awarded by the US, since the start of the US War on Terror in 2001. In a ceremony on September 18, 2009, SFC Monti was inducted into the Pentagon Hall of Heroes.

The Bantams will wear the 10th Mountain Division patch on their jerseys with the intials J.C.M & M.O.H in honor of SFC Monti and his receipt of the Medal of Honor.

SFC Monti is cousin of Bantam player Ryan Lindsay and nephew and godchild of Ryan's mom Terri Lindsay.
