Youngstown Ursuline "Fighting Irish" Baseball
Welcome to the Ursuline Baseball website.
The Irish won the Division AA Ohio State Baseball Championship in 1988 and the Division III State Championship in 2000. We were the Division AA Northeast Regional Champions in 1984 and 1988, the Division III Massillon Northeast Regional Champions in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2006 and 2007 and a Division III State Finalist in 2001 and 2006.
The Irish are coached by Sean Durkin (UHS '88) in his eleventh season and his assistant coaches are Bill Metzinger (UHS '88), Joe Metzinger (UHS '73), Randy Rair (UHS '94), Nick Stanec, Benny Santiago, Andrew Frasco (UHS '05) and Sean Satterlee (UHS '05). Sean Durkin and Bill Metzinger played on the 1988 State Championship team. They all look to add to the 34 year Baseball tradition established in 1975 by Coach Matt Giambattista. Coach "G" led the Irish to the 1988 State title.
Ursuline competes in the Steel Valley Conference and are OHSAA Division III in 2008.
The other members of the Steel Valley Conference in 2008 are the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals, the Warren Harding Raiders, the Warren John F. Kennedy Eagles, the Chaney Cowboys and the East Panthers.

Tournament Update
The IRISH advance to the Massillon Regional with a 4-1 win over East Palestine in the Struthers District. It is our 9th District title and 6th in Coach Durkin's 11 year tenure as head coach. We will face Canton Central Catholic in the Regional semifinal game 2:00 Thursday May 29 at Massillon HS Schroeder Field.

2008 Fish Fry - Chinese Auction Update

The Fish Fry - Chinese Auction held Friday March 14th was a huge success. Over $6000 was raised and will go to the baseball account that pays for equipment, uniforms, field rental and umpire fees. A special thanks go out to Jeff Valley and Valley Foods, Ralph Naples Jr. and The Golden Dawn Restaurant for their extraordinary contributions. Without you NONE of this is possible. A very special thank you goes out to a good friend of Ursuline Baseball who donated the Polaroid 32" LCD flatscreen television grand prize, MVI Homecare with the Apple Ipod Touch donation and ALL the local businesses who donated to the auction!! Also thanks to all the parents who worked the tables, worked in the kitchen and collected donations. Your efforts help make this Ursuline's best sports fundraiser and are greatly appreciated!
