Patriots return from Bahamas!
The Patriots returned home after 6 exciting, challenging and enjoyable days at the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas.
Starting with a grueling spin session on Thursday night in the Atlantis fitness center, followed by running sprints in the center's lap pool, the tone for the trip was set by Noel right from the start. Additional practice and conditioning sessions followed on Friday and Saturday, leading up to the much dreaded beach run on Saturday morning. What most impressed John and Stan was that not a single member dropped out or quit during the punishing 4 mile beach run interspersed with sprints into and out of the ocean on the soft coral sand of the beach on Saturday morning; and that the girls finished their final run as a team!
Of course, the team also had the opportunity to compete against local Bahamian players in the scheduled matches on Friday, Saturday and Monday evenings. Playing 3 games against a representative team from the Bahamas Football Association, the team finished with a 2-0-1 record. More importantly, the team consistently displayed great sportsmanship throughout the games, and noticeably stepped up their level of play across the 3 games.
With plenty of free time to allow everyone the opportunity to enjoy the fantastic Atlantis resort complex, and an entire afternoon dedicated to a team snorkling trip on the reefs off of Nassau Island, the trip was far from strictly work! Club Rush, the teen night club in the Atlantis, was a frequent destination for many of the players during their free time between dinner and the team curfew; and everyone took advantage of the many pools, water rides, and gorgeous ocean and beaches the resort had to offer!
The reaction to the trip was best summarized by one of the players as our plane landed at Newark airport : "...can't we just turn around and go back?"
Our thanks to the Bahamas Football Association, for their hospitality and competition; to Noel Ashford, of Lifetime Experiences for organizing this tremendous opportunity; and to Kevin, who the girls have started to forgive for playing Keeper for the BFA team in the first half of our final game!
Some pictures from the trip are in the "Albums" section, under "2007 Summer Tournaments"

First Patriots Poker Tournament a Huge Success
The Patriots sponsored their first fundraising event for their planned 2007 European tour Sunday. The first "Texas Hold-em" tournament had 70 players attending, and helped to kick-off their fundraising in a stellar fashion.
Tournament Director Brian Wood received high praise from all the attendees for the organization of the event, and the food provided to the players by the team parents was also well received.
The team would like to thank Brian and all the parents for their hard work at this great event.

Patriots hold their 3rd annual Pre-season Scrimmage and Cookout
The Patriots sponsored their 3rd annual pre-season scrimmage with a slightly different format than in past years. Due to the large number of players on vacation, and the limited number of teams that were available this weekend, the Patriots and their guests the FGSC Phoenix and the Buckingham Breakers modified the traditional format of the scrimmage. Rather than the usual round-robin scrimmage, the Patriots and Breakers merged and scrimmaged Phoenix for 60 hot and sticky minutes! After sweltering in the extreme heat and humidity of the scrimmage, the Patriots and their guests relaxed in the grove and enjoyed the food, drinks, dessert, and friendship provided by all 3 teams.
A special thank you goes out to Sharon Reading, who organized the food for the Patriots and set up the grove area, and to Bob Lang who sweltered over the grill, very capably filling in for our usual chef, Brian Wood.

Patriots survive a tough pre-season shakedown...go 1-3 in WSC Tournament
The Patriots faced some outstanding competition in the WSC tournament this past weekend, with opponents including Hershey Tidal Force, PSC Coppa, and perennial friendly rivals Buckingham and Phoenix.
After an exciting 45 minutes in our first game Saturday against Hershey, where we were able to hold them to a single goal, their experience and some momentary lapses on our part resulted in a final score of 0-5 Recovering from that disappointment, the Patriots were able to defeat Buckingham by a 2-1 margin. The following day, we started out by playing PSC Coppa. A nearly flawless performance by Sam W. in goal kept the game scoreless until the final 5 minutes when PSC was able to slip the winning goal past her. In the final game against Phoenix, facing a 2-0 deficit at the end of the first half, the Patriots rallied to score early in the 2nd half, and were pressing towards an equalizing goal when the clock ran out.
The team was pleasantly surprised by a visit from Shaun Burke, the team's trainer from the George School camp. Shaun came by to provide support and encouragement to the team, and also some welcome words of advice.
Our thanks to the following Patriots who changed their vacation plans to participate in the tournament: Jackie D., Lyndsay, Jamie, Sam S., Alison, Kate.
We would also like to thank Olivia, Aubrie, Carley and Gretchen for taking time from their vacations to guest with us. We really did appreciate your help this weekend!
Based on the efforts shown by all the Patriots, we are looking forward to an exciting and successful season this fall!

3rd Annual Patriots Pasta Party a Success!
The 3rd Annual Patriots pre-tournament season pasta party was held this past Friday before our first tournament of the 2005 season.
Patriots and guest players consumed considerable amounts of pasta, sausage, meatballs, chicken strips, salad and ice cream; then received the uniforms that officially marked them as members of the Ukrainian Nationals Soccer Club.
We had the chance to welcome Carley, Gretchen, and Aubrie who would be guest players for the WSC Tournament. For the Patriots who attended the UK Elite Camp at George School, it was a chance to catch-up with Carley's life since July; and for everyone to find out what's new with Gretchen and Aubrie since we saw them last.
Welcome ladies- we're glad that you could join us for the tournament!

First Patriots "Parents Night Out" a success
The first of many (we hope) Patriots Parents Night Out was enjoyed this past Friday night. Featuring dinner at Poco's Restaurant and followed by laughs at the Comedy Caberet, this evening allowed the parents to enjoy a low-key enjoyable evening!
Our thanks to Sharon Reading for organizing this evening. We hope that this will become a regular event!

Patriots Complete UK Elite Residential Camp
All 14 members of the Patriots who attended survived the team Residential camp at George School this past week. Their work-out sessions were aided by the 68 steps up to their cool, comfortable rooms on the 4th floor; but we left the camp with the same number that we started with, so the week must be considered a success!
The improvements in your performance as a team were evident at each evening scrimmage, and we are looking forward to a strong showing this season in ICSL 1st Division!
Now what's this we are hearing about a team trip to the UK in 2007...?

Sundae Sunday Get-together Recap
The 2nd annual Patriot's Sundae Sunday yesterday was judged a success based on the lack of any left-over ice cream. Included in the activities was introduction of Megan H., our newest Spring addition; the distribution of the ICSL trophies; and the rundown of planned games, tournaments and activities for the coming spring season.
We are tentatively planning on starting practices this Sunday (March 14) from Noon to 2 PM. As soon as we move into Daylight Savings Time, we will resume practices on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
As of now, we will plan on practicing at Meyer Way. A confirming e-mail will be sent to everyone later this week with all the details.

Patriots Mall Trip a success!
Merchants at the King of Prussia mall reported a sharp spike in sales on Saturday as the Patriots stormed the mall seemingly buying everything in sight!
Patriots spokesperson Mich was quoted as saying "...if I see it, and it's on sale...its MINE!" Her chauffeur Eileen was overheard asking "...where the heck are we, anyway?"
Meanwhile, parents cringed as they received reports of the severe retail carnage being inflicted upon the hapless merchants of the mall.
Our thanks to Jackie M for organizing a great team outing! Next up...bowling anyone?
Monday, February 16

Patriots Win Deep Run Tournament!
![]() |
Playing the final game against the Montgomery Hot Shots (who had a identical 3-0 record) in a match that would determine the championship; the Patriots (after scoring an early goal) managed to contain the Montgomery offensive efforts for the entire game and finished the match with a 1-0 final score. All the spectators agreed that the final game was the most exciting game for the Patriots this season.
Congratulations to the team, and special thanks to guest players Allison B, and Patriots alumni Jillian and Jules for their tremendous efforts this past weekend!

Patriots Hayride!
![]() |
Although the ride wasn't supposed to be "haunted", those of us in the first wagon heard some very scary sounds coming from the back wagon that sent shivers up our spines. We were later informed that it was supposed to be "singing". What was missing in pitch was more than made up for in volume! The Von Trapp family has nothing to fear from the Patriots!
After the traditional marshmallow sacrifice, (and no, Mish, that burning marshmallow did NOT look like a toad!) everyone feasted on the hot dogs and s'mores - a well balanced diet!
For some of those who dared to attempt the maze in the dark, if it weren't for the efforts of "Corn Cop Bob" we would still be waiting for you to come out! (Don't worry Ali, it probably WAS a cat...maybe)
Now back to our regularly scheduled season!
