District 12 now offering Challenger Division!
Challenger

The Challenger Division of Little League is a program for mentally and physically challenged youth, helping them to enjoy the full benefits of Little League participation in an athletic environment structured to their abilities. More than the skills of baseball learned through the experience, the value of the Little League Challenger Division is found in the proven therapeutic and socialization benefits of participating in sports, the strengthening of participants’ self-esteem, the opportunities to mainstream into other divisions of play, and the disciplines of teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play, which are hallmarks of the Little League program. The Little League Challenger Division provides the framework so Little League programs may offer a structured, athletic activity for all youth in their communities. Playing with the same equipment on the same fields, Challenger Division participants have the opportunity to experience the joys of pulling together as a team, being cheered, and earning awards for their achievements.
Registration is free.  A minimal donation of $25 is requested to cover expenses.  Grants are available to those in need.
For more information on whether your child is a fit for this program or to sign-up for the Spring 2009 Baseball Season, please contact:

Rules Changes for the 2009 Season

Little League has made a few rule changes affecting bats and pitching days rest.  Below are excerpts on the bat rules.  To read about all the changes see this document

Little League is instituting the following rule for bats in 2009.  "Beginning with the 2009 season, non wood bats used in divisions of Little League (league age 12 years old and younger) shall be printed with a BPF (bat performance factor) of 1.15 or less. Senior and Big League non wood bats shall meet the BESR (Bat Exit Speed Ratio) performance standard, and such bats shall be printed with a permanent certification mark."

For Juniors, Seniors, and Bigs the following applies.  "Beginning with the 2009 Little League Baseball season, baseball bats with a diameter of 2-3/4 inches are no longer permitted for use in the Junior League Division of Baseball.
Baseball bats with a 2-5/8 inch diameter are now the standard for all teenage baseball divisions (Junior, Senior and Big League).
The "minus-3" requirement - overall weight (in ounces) of a bat can be no more than three ounces below the overall length (in inches) of the bat - remains in effect in Senior and Big League Baseball divisions, but is NOT a requirement in Junior Baseball."

If you have a bat or plan on purchasing a new one for the upcoming season, please ensure it meets the above criteria or you will not be able to use it.
