Thursday, July 3Tournament update
The Junior Softball and Major baseball teams have been eliminated from District 3 play, while the Major softball team moves on to the semi finals.
The Juniors lost a heartbreaker to Oxford 9- 8 in extra innings eliminating them from the tournament. After a loss to Derby, the major boys took on Peter J Foley and lost 5 - 0 also eliminated from tournament play. The boys will move on to play in Southington at the Allan Bantor Memorial Tournament. Last year, the major boys made it to the Championship game in Southington going undefeated in pool play but lost the final game against Berlin 6-2.
The Major girls softball team won a thriller against Shelton Wednesday night 7-6. The girls bounced back after falling behind 5-2 early. Giving up the 6-5 lead in the top of the 6th, Union City rallied to load the bases in the bottom of the 6th inning. Jordyn Sigetti drew a walk to force the winning run home. Sarah Chandler pitched well for Union City going the distance to pick up the win. Brianna Britto and Nicole Lopes were solid defensively making plays that kept Union City in the game. Union City will face Oxford Saturday night for a chance to move on to the finals where Seymour will be waiting for the winner of Saturday night's game. Come on out and support the girls from UCLL!!!!!!!!!!!

Major baseball losses tournament opener
The 11/12 boys lost to Derby by a score of 6 - 2 Sunday night. Scott Sill pitched well for Union City keeping the team in the game through 4 innings. Derby broke a 1 - 1 tie going into the 5th inning scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the inning. The boys will play Peter J Foley on July 1st, 5:30 in Seymour ( Casa Grande Field ).

Junior Softball advances to Finals
After a tough 5-4 loss to Oxford, the UC 13-14 girls defeated Ansonia to advance to the District 3 Junior finals. The girls will take on Oxford Tuesday at Joe Joy 5:30 pm. It will take 2 wins for Union City to win the championship.

11/12 Softball vs. Seymour
The 11/12 softball all stars lost to Seymour 10-0 in district 3 tournament play. The UC girls will take on PJF Monday evening at Nelligan Field @ 5:30 in the loser's bracket.

Major Softball wins opener
The UCLL 11/12 girls softball team won their tournament opener Thursday night against Ansonia LL. The girls will face Seymour Saturday June 28 at 4:30 in Shelton at Sunnyside field.

Junior Softball team wins district opener
The UCLL 13-14 year old girls defeated Ansonia by a score of 2 - 0 to open up the district 3 tournament.

Congratulations to the 2008 regular season tournament champions!
This years regular season tournament champions:
Major Baseball Diamondbacks defeat the Yankees by a score of 6 - 5 to capture their second consecutive championship. Mike Dimaria pitched for the Diamondbacks and put the D'backs ahead for good with a RBI single in the 5th ining. Chris Sheedy pitched an excellent game for the Yankees.
Minor Softball The Red Sox defeated the Diamondbacks Saturday morning in thier final game of the season to capture the regular season championship.
Senior softball The Thunder defeated the Explosion 5 -4 in a very exciting game Sunday evening. Sam Bombadier and Shelby Hale homered for the Explosion.
AAA Baseball The Marlins defeated the White Sox to capture thier second consecutive minor league championship.

Union City will be sending 11/12 year old baseball and softball, 10/11 baseball, 9/10 softball, and a Junior Softball ( 13-14) to the tournaments. Come on out and support our league!

Trophy Picnic July 19.
Please join us at our annual end of the season awards picnic at Quassy Amusement park. The picnic will be held on Saturday July 19, 2008 from 10:00 am 5:00 pm. Food will be served between 12 noon and 4 pm and will include chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, cole slaw, soda, lemonade, coffee/tea, and fruit punch.
An all day ride and swim pass will be available for purchase the day of the picnic for $8.00.
All players are invited for free; the admission ticket is attached to this letter (ride pass NOT included). Friends and family are welcome to attend. Tickets are available in our concession stand for $11.00 (ride pass NOT included). No one will be allowed to enter the pavilion area without a ticket. We encourage you to purchase your tickets ahead of time but we will have limited tickets available at the gate.
Trophies and awards will be presented to all players throughout the day.
Upon arrival, please mention to the parking attendant that you are with Union City Little League, parking is free. The picnic will be held in the Fieldside Pavilion.

Place: Gubby Cowen Clubhouse, 165 Morris Street
Registration is open to all children between the ages of 5 - 12 for baseball and 7 - 16 for softball.
The childs age is determined as of April 30, 2008 for baseball and Dec 31, 2007 for softball.
You must reside in the east side of Naugatuck to play with UCLL. West side residents play with the Peter J. Foley LL. ) Exception: 13 - 16 year old girls are eligible from any part of Naugatuck.
All players MUST bring a birth certificate and 3 forms of identification.
Fee schedule for 2008 ( unchanged from 2007 ) :
Registration fees for Non Competitive divisions ( 5 - 8 year old baseball ) are $70.00 plus $20 raffle book and Competitive divisions ( 7 - 16 year old softball and 9 - 12 year old baseball) are $90.00 plus a $20.00 raffle book.
A family will only be charged for a maximum of $200.
