Welcome to the official site of Mooney/Ursuline Hockey. This team was created in September of 1999 by students from Cardinal Mooney, Ursuline, and other area high schools around Youngstown, OH and Western Pennsylvania. The team is currently part of the North Coast High School Hockey League which is based out of Cleveland. We are located in Youngstown, OH. Come see us play!! Just click on Schedules in the left hand column and come out to see your Mooney/Ursuline Thunder!!! Our home arena is the Ice Zone located at 360 McClurg Rd. in Boardman. Congratulations to One of Our Own
Graduating senior, Dean Macklen, was presented with a book scholarship from the Cleveland Hockey Boosters for an essay he submitted titled, "What High School Hockey Has Meant to Me" Dean was nominated by his coach, Lou Morocco. Criteria for involvement were a 3.5 GPA and an ACT score of 26 or above. Entrants were invited from approximately 40 high school hockey teams in the Cleveland area. This is the first year that our club was included in this contest. Dean was awarded the certificate at the Lake Erie Monsters awards dinner at Iceland USA.
The Boosters are a great organization. Please check them out at http://www.clevelandhockeybc.org. Our support of their club will enable them to offer more and bigger scholarships in the future (our players included). Please consider a membership. Membership is just $15 per individual or $25 per family and members under 18 who play hockey are entered into a monthly drawing for $100. This runs throughout the year.

MOONEY URSULINE WINS AGAIN!!!!! Rock 'n' Roll Cup #1!
For the second week in a row, The Mooney Ursuline Thunder High School Hockey Club brought home the hardware, defeating Grand Valley Stars (Michigan) for the championship 5-1. In the preliminary rounds, M/U defeated The Maryland Northstars 4-2 and the Neville Island Arctic Foxes 5-3. Dropping the Sunday morning match up to The Westerville Warcats 4-1 only inspired the Thunder to take their A game into the championship game.Leading the weekend scoring for the Thunder were Ryan Carothers 4 goals, Brian Styers with 3 goals and 2 assists, Alex Figuly (3-1), Phil Tate 2 goals, Louie Morocco and Jimmy Lacko (1-2), Dean Macklen (1-1). Also scoring assists were Vince Fornes 4, Ryan Demyen 3, Bronson Lamoncha 2, and Tyler Emery 1.
Monday, March 9
M/U TAKES FIRST PLACE IN WOOSTER TOURNAMENT!!!! WOO HOO!!!
Mooney Ursuline Thunder High School Hockey Club won it all at the 6th annual Alan Fenton Tournament at the Alice Noble Ice Arena in Wooster. M/U defeated The Akron Canton Penguins 11-3 and the Wooster Generals 12-4, and tied The Fremont Ice Wolves 3-3 in the round robin. This set the stage for a hard fought Championship game between Fremont and M/U. M/U prevailed 5-2.
Weekend scoring leaders were Dean Macklen 6 goals 8 assists, Ryan Demyen 5 goals 7 assists, Brian Styers 4 goals 3 assists, Alex Figuly 3 goals 5 assists, Phil Tate 2 goals, 7 assists, Ryan Carothers 5 goals, Vince Fornes 4 goals 1 assist, Louie Morocco 1 goals 3 assists, and Joe Geiser 1 goal 2 assists. Also providing assists were Bronson Lamoncha 3, Phil Monrean and Nick Carney 2 assists each and 1 assist each for Roger Geiser, Sesti Boniface, Brian Helbley, Will Baringer and Jonathan Welsh.
Goalies Jonathan Welsh and Roger Geiser stopped 18 of 22 shots and 46 of 54 shots respectively for M/U.

Rock 'n' Roll Cup President's Day Tournament News

Mooney/Ursuline Thunder Hockey Club finished runner up in the Rock and Roll Cup Tournament over the weekend. M/U had three wins against the Fremont Ice Wolves 3-2, the West Virginia, Morgantown Blades 6-4, the New York, Hamburg Hawks 4-2 and a tie with the New York, Batavia Ramparts 3-3. M/U dropped the Championship game to the Ontario, Vaughan Rangers 3-1. Scoring Goals for M/U were Brian Styers 6 goals and 3 assists, Alex Figuly 4 Goals 3 assists, Dean Macklen 4 Goals, 2 assists, Cory Timmings 2 goals, 2 assists, Ryan Demyen and Tyler Emery 1 goal 1 assist each, and Louie Morocco 1 goal. Also providing assists were Bronson Lamoncha, Sesti Boniface, and Vince Fornes 2 each, and Phil Monrean 1. M/U’s next game is against Harborcreek PA., March 1st at 3:45PM at the Ice Zone for Senior night

Northcoast High School Hockey League Playoff News
The #7 seed Mooney/Ursuline Thunder Hockey Club entered the North Coast High School Hockey League playoffs Friday night against the #9 seed Fremont Ice Wolves. With the game knotted at 1, and 51 seconds left in the second period, Dean Macklen scored two goals in a 19 second span to put M/U ahead for good. Vince Fornes and Alex Figuly scored the first and final goals in the 4-1 win. Assists were by were by Macklen, Phil Tate, Cory Timmings, Ryan Demen, Phil Monrean, and Brian Helbley.
Saturday night The Thunder defeated the #2 seed Medina Bees 3-2 in overtime on a Ryan Demyen goal. Also scoring goals were Bryan Styers and Tate. Assisting were Helbley, Macklen and Bronson Lamoncha.
The Thunder dropped Sunday nights game to #3 seed Lakewood Club Rangers 4-2. Macklen again scored both goals. Demyen, Tate and Cory Timmings assisted. Net Minder Jonathan Welsh stopped a total of 96 shots in all three games. M/U drops to the consolation bracket in the double elimination format and will play Wednesday at 8:35 PM against the winner of the Jackson Polar Bears/VASJ Vikings game.

U/M Wins First Annual Steel Valley Cup
In a very exciting Monday night game, Mooney/Ursuline defeated Canfield in the first Steel Valley Cup game ever. Playing a very close game the whole way through, U/M was down 3-2 in the final minute of the game. But with only 2 seconds left in regulation, U/M scored on a close goal to tie the game up. Then in overtime, Josh Charleton scored the game winner off a rebound, earning your Thunder the Steel Valley Cup!!
