The UL Vikings continued on to Shamrock Bowl XXIII after their semi final clash with the Carrickfergus Knights.
The game was cut short mid-way through the third quarter due to a serious injury to a Carrickfergus player. He was treated on the field for a time and brought to the Regional Hospital and is recovering well. Neither team had much of an appetite for football after that and as the score was 20-0 to the Vikings at that point they were given the win. Both teams priority was doing their best to ensure the injured player, Gary McElkerney, was recovering.
The Vikings scored three times on the ground, through a long outside run from Adrian Garvey, a short inside charge from James Twomey and a run from Liam Ryan. Garvey added the extra points on two kicks. The Vikings D performed well with John Mullen and Dara O'Callaghan doing well.
The Vikings move on to the Shamrock Bowl which is being held in Belfast this year. It is on in Cooke RFC on the 9th of August and kicks off at 2pm. The Dublin Rebels will be the opposition in a rematch of last years Shamrock Bowl.
