Vikings squeak past the Admirals
The Vikings had a close call against their Munster rivals the Cork Admirals. The Vikings were highly fancied going into the game and Cork had not been playing at their usual high standard. They seem to have solved whatever problems they had and gave the Vikings a tough game. The Admirals were first on the board with a TD pass by QB Lomasney to the left corner of the end zone. The PAT attempt was no good so the score stood at 6-0.
Both defences dominated the game and each side had important turnovers and big stops. In the second quarter Vikings kicker Keith Fitzgerald kicked a field goal to cut the deficit to three. In the third quarter Vikings QB JP Nerbun made a big individual play, jumping over a would be tackler on his way to the endzone on a QB Boot. The PAT was no good which left the score at 9-6. The rest of the game was a tense affair with either side realising that one blown coverage or missed tackle could be the difference between winning or losing. The Vikings D stepped up and closed out the game.
