The University City Youth 49ers (Niners) organization was established in 2006. The organization strives to promote educational and community outreach, mentorship and diversity through athletics and social interaction. Through this effort, the UCYN hopes to instill and reflect pride, teamwork, sportsmanship, quality work ethic, discipline and awareness while stressing academic and athletic achievement and leadership, among its participants and members of the community they interact with. Through the foundation of these guiding principles, the UCYN hopes to achieve these goals by placing a strong emphasis on academic achievement, positive sportsmanship, character development and physical fitness. Our student athletes range in age from 6 to 17. We are committed to the overall success and achievements of youths from culturally and economically diverse backgrounds. Currently, the UCYN organization offers programs in football, basketball and track. To learn more about the UCYN overall organization go to www.ucyn.org.
The UCYN TRACK CLUB (established September 2007) hails its origin from the previously established University City Cougars Track Club, (organized in 2000); Coach Tulani Vaughn was one of the founders of this organization. The UCYN are currently a member of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and USA Track and Field (USATF) organizations. We are a year round competitive program that offers cross country, indoor/spring track, and summer outdoor track. We provide training in all running events (including hurdles) and field events (shot put, discus, long jump and high jump). All coaches are required to have a criminal background check. Also, coaches will be certified USATF Level I (or higher) or working towards such certification. Our coaching staff consist of Coach Tulani Vaughn, Coach Rob Jackson, Coach Kevin Lyles, Coach Tanya Carroll, Coach Rudolph Brown and Coach Miles Vaughn.
