Sharks 8 - Loughborough Aces 21
A strong Loughborough team were challenged by a determined Hull side, who had many players playing in their final game. It was Loughborough that scored first on a long drive where they had key completions on a couple of 3rd downs. It was concluded on a 10 yard sweep to the left by Craig Flower. The extra point kick failed. On Loughborough’s next drive they scored again on a long drive with Ian Jacquet scoring on a perfectly executed wide receiver screen. They passed the 2 point conversion into the corner of the end zone to give them a 14-0 lead. It remained scoreless until the third quarter when Loughborough’s strong defence gave their offence excellent field position, which they used to their advantage when Ian Jacquet ran in a WR reverse from 15 yards out. They kicked the extra point. Hull were still fighting and in the 4th quarter they got their reward when James Tait scored a 50 yard touchdown run on a sweep to the left. The 2 point conversion was scrambled in by Mike Wareing. The final score was 21-8 with Loughborough going unbeaten for the season while the Sharks looked back on what could have been in this luckless season.
