  News: Oldboys best Sharks

Oldboys best Sharks
A very clement day in the fine city of Hull was the setting of the annual Old Boys game between the Sharks and the Whales. After the Whales were drinking the night before the game, it was widely assumed that the Whales would start sluggishly. This was not the case however, as it seemed the Sharks were the ones with the hangover. After a botched snap from new centre RJ Stockdale, the Whales were left with perfect position to score, with TE Nick Chadwick trundling his way into the endzone from 15 yards out. The 2PAT was also converted with ease, RB Maz Hussein running it in. Both offences then exchanged possessions, as the defensive battle that has become a regularity in these games continued into the second quarter. The Sharks offence could not get past the Whales formidable defence, as they were picked off 4 times, and fumbled it away on just as many occasions. On the Whales offence, miss-communication and bad execution were causing them to miss-fire. The Sharks finally broke their duck in the second quarter, when MLB Simon Grey caused a fumble, which was picked up and returned for a 30 yard touchdown by OLB Gaz Wild. OG Jonny Smith kicked the extra point, leaving the half time score at 8-7.
The second half started as the first finished, with both defences stopping their opposing offences in their tracks. However, the Sharks could find no answer to the running capabilities of rookie Whale Rich Cochrane, who played very well at RB, FB and QB. It was “Crowbar” who scored the decisive touchdown for the Whales, running it in from 25yards out. The 2PAT failed, leaving the final score at 14-7.
