The weather woes of central Ohio have made it difficult for the Lady Cards to take the field for much of the pre-season. Given the rain and cold temperatures, the Varsity team was lucky to play 2 of their 3 scheduled scrimmages. In each of the bouts the Lady Cards performed well on both the offensive and defensive sides of the field.
This past Saturday the Lady Cards played host to Grove City. Volunteers took to the field early armed with rakes and diamond-dry. Everyone was determined to do whatever was needed to get the field ready. "We really needed to get this scrimmage in," remarked Thomas Worthington Head Coach, Joe Abraham. "Having the opportunity to play a quality team like Grove City in the pre-season can really help you get ready for the regular season" he added.
The Lady Cards played 8 innings against the Greyhounds of Grove City scoring an impressive 11 runs to 3. Seniors Emily Bogenschutz and Rachael May along with Junior Jennifer Horton all saw time on the mound. Behind the plate action was shared between Senior Alexandra Reid and Junior Kayla McPeek. The bats were a little slow coming in the early innings, but the girls started to get things going the second time through.
The Lady Cards will officially kick off the 2008 season at home on Wednesday, April 2 at 5:15pm when they welcome the Wildcats of Hilliard Davidson. We look forward to seeing you for an exciting evening of Fastpitch on the Flats!
