Sportsmanship, skill, camaraderie, athleticism, and responsibility: these principals lie at the foundation of the Danville Soccer Club’s Blast travel soccer program. The Danville Soccer Club would like to invite soccer players from Danville, Pittsylvania County, and the surrounding area to try out for one of our fall travel soccer teams. Any soccer player age 10 and up who is ready for a challenge should come see what we’re all about. We offer coaches who are licensed by the United States Soccer Federation and United States Youth Soccer. Scholarships are available to those willing to volunteer to help our club. Coming to tryouts is the first step toward a very worthwhile experience.

I have a few questions about the Blast Team:
1. How much does it cost to play for the Blast – assuming a child makes the team?
The season fee is around $200, and then player’s pay for their uniform pieces as well. (probably around $100)
The uniform can be purchased once, and then the team will use those uniforms until they outgrow them.
2. What is the average drive time to the venue of out-of-town games?
We play in the Blue Ridge Classic League. http://www.brclsoccer.org/
Most of our opponents are from Martinsville, Bedford, Roanoke, Franklin Co. and Radford. Sometimes there may be smaller clubs who join from farther away, but that is not the norm.
3. How many games are played in season, and how long is the season?
We’ll play about 8-10 games in the fall from September to early November.
Half of the games are played at Dan Daniels, and half are on the road.
If the player is younger than 14, we expect that the player will commit to a fall and spring season.
4. On what day or days of the week are games played?
Games are played on Saturdays and Sundays.
There may be one weekend in the season that on one weekend both days are game days, but it would be one home and one away game.
It is not a requirement to stay in a hotel every weekend as some people think. All of our league games are one day affairs.
We would try to get to one tournament at the end of the season. Hopefully for the younger teams it would be in Greensboro and would not require hotel rooms.
5. Can a Blast player play other sports during the Blast season?
It is not recommended, but as long as the player can commit to two practices a week and a game on the weekend, the rest of their time is up to them.
I have learned that a team will be successful if –
- there is a qualified coach who can commit to 2 practices and a weekend match
- a majority of the players are at the top end of the age group – if it is a u11 team, we can carry a handful of 9 year olds, but we want most to be 10.
- the players come to training
- there is an organized team parent who can communicate effectively and efficiently

We try to take the best kids and coaches in the area and put them in the most challenging environment we have access to.
