Dutch's Title Was the Perfect Treat By Barry LewisHigh Schoolsbarry.lewis@tulsaworld.com581-8393

HOLLAND HALL head softball coach Dave Bach looks back at his team's perfect season and calls it "pretty amazing." Despite not having any seniors, the Dutch went 16-0, capped by winning the Southwest Preparatory Conference championship last month in Dallas.  "We were so young," Bach said. "You never know how so many freshmen are going to react but everyone played beyond their years.  Many of Holland Hall's key players were freshmen, including pitcher Jules Townsend, who threw three no-hitters, two perfect games and averaged 12 strikeouts per game. Three of Holland Hall's four all- SPC players were freshmen- Jules Townsend, Paris Townsend and Eryn McCarver. The other was Junior Natalie Powers.  In the championship game, Holland Hall was within one strike of winning in regulation before Houston Episcopal sent the game into extra innings. Episcopal then scored twice in the top of the eighth to take 6-4 lead. In the bottom of the eighth, the Dutch were within one strike of losing before rallying as freshman Courtney Holmes delivered an RBI single and scored on McCarver's tying triple. Another freshman Jamie Rice, drove in McCarver with the winning single. "We kind of made it more exciting than it needed to be, but it was a complete team win," saidBach, who was assisted by Becky Dreher and Butch Virdell. Holland Hall avoided anotherheartbreaking lost in the SPC final. In 2008, the Dutch lost the championshipgame in extra innings.  "I thought we would have a good year, but I didn't expect to go undefeated," Bach said. "We've got everyone coming back next Year and we'll try to do it again."
