COPPER WIRE THEFT DESTROYS FIELD LIGHTS BUT THE SEASON CONTINUES

The Field of Dreams, Kino and 36th Street, has once again been the victim of copper wire theft and the field lights no longer operate.  At this time the City of Tucson does NOT have funds to replace the wire and, therefore, both Tucson Challenger and Randolph Little League are working to prepare and coordinate alternative schedules which do not require lights to play.   The City has estimated $20,000 to replace the wire and repair the electrical system.  Challenger has limited funds, but is attempting to find donations that will help us provide the City sufficient funds to get the lights back in working order.

OPENING DAY CEREMONIES & GAMES   Our Opening Day Ceremonies and Games date remain the same.  So be ready to go Saturday March 17, 2012 at 8:30am.  After the Opening Ceremonies all teams will play games, starting with the Minor Division.  While the Minors are playing we will be serving a hotdog lunch (hotdogs, chips, cookies & drink) to the Major Division.  After the Minors are done playing, lunch will be provided to them.  Lunch is free of charge to players and coaches.  Lunch tickets will be available for $2.50 for all others.

MODIFIED SCHEDULE With limited daylight hours available both Challenger and Randolph are modifying schedules and this may have to include playing on Sundays.  The Minor Division schedule on Saturday mornings is not expected to change, but the Major Division schedule will be affected.  Please pay close attention to our website for any changes and updates.

IF YOU KNOW OF A GROUP WHO MAY BE ABLE TO HELP WITH FUNDS TO REPAIR THE LIGHTS PLEASE CONTACT BILL FIELDS (294-3400 wk or 631-8021 cell)

Special Olympics Softball for those over 21!! §           What does this mean to you?  If you turn 21 years of age before April 30 you will be playing in the Special Olympics division.  If you turn 21 after April 30 you will remain in the Challenger Division. §           Due to Little League age limits, Tucson Challenger and Special Olympics created the opportunity for players that “age out” of Challenger to continue playing under the name of Special Olympics. §           All games are played at The Field of Dreams but Special Olympics plays slow pitch softball and the players pitch rather than the coaches.  The games are competitive, but teams have players at all levels and abilities. §           All SO players are invited to Opening & Closing ceremonies; receive a team picture, trophy & the same great fun as playing in Challenger. §           IMPORTANT: Special Olympics players are required to be registered in Special Olympics & have a current physical on file with Special Olympics before they will be allowed to play. Call if you have questions.§           Contact Dolly Dominguez  @ 792-1818  or Dolly2439@cox.net
