It was UGA’s Junior Day on Saturday, but Bulldogs coach Mark Richt also gave some love to one of the state’s 2011 prospects. UGA was the seventh school to offer Tucker sophomore linebacker James Vaughters.
“Actually with the way recruiting is going, with colleges offering kids earlier, I’m not surprised about all of this happening with James,” Tucker coach Franklin Stephens said. “When you watch James on tape, you don’t see a sophomore. When you throw in his academics, you have one of those can’t-miss prospects.”
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Vaughters was one of the top defenders on Tucker’s state championship team, which had five seniors sign with major colleges, including Drayton Calhoun (LSU) and Deion Roberson (N.C. State).
Perhaps most importantly, Vaughters carries a 4.0 GPA.
