2009 Team BART Schedule

Bay Area Teen Runners will once again be in full-force. Time to get those trail shoes dusted off and ready to run!!  This program is designed to encourage middle school and high school runners and track and field athletes to workout during their off-season months.  Those wishing to get in shape for other sports are also welcome to participate.

Please note that this program is not intended to conflict with the expert advice of  your own coach.   If you are interested  in participating,  please let Craig Stern know.  It is  a lot of fun to run with runners from other programs in a non-hostile environment.  There is nothing like running together on some great Marin trails.  We  hope to set up several runs this summer.  All runs are designed to be low-key.  Emphasis is on mileage building.

All participants will be required to donate a $50.00 participation fee per year to cover expenses and insurance costs. This covers the entire 2009 season.  Go to Handouts to access the application form.

For further information, contact Craig Stern (415-892-0597 or cjstern1@verizon.net.  This website will be updated fairly regularly and will also have photos.  We anticipate hosting several runs over many of  Marin’s interesting and challenging trails.

Olympian Clinic!!

We had a blast at the clinic.  Got to see Olympians all over the place.  Ben worked with Reynaldo Brown in the High Jump.  There was Andre Phillips in the hurdles and Billy Mills talking about his gold medal winning effort and his life,  plus many, many more...
Coming up next for Team Bart (Bay Area Running Teens) is a planned attendance to the annual "meet the Olympians" day at Logan High school on Saturday, Feb. 7th.  Here is the chance for only $25.00 to get all day hands on tutoring from the world's best track and field athletes.  Dick Fosbury helped Evan Ball in the high jump a few years back.  Gold medal winner, Andre Phillips helped Andrea Klinkman in the hurdles!!    We will get there about 9am and return about 4pm. This event is age suitable for pretty much 3rd grade thru high school.

DIPSEA RUN A BLAST!!

Everyone had a nice time running the Dipsea.  Yours respectfully got to the top of the stairs and decided to call it a day on all those uphills.  I did drive up to above insult and ran the moors, etc. so as to get in about 3.5 miles total--only 1/2 of what everyone else proudly ran.  Many thanks to the birthday boy, Russ Kiernan, for the guided tour of everything that makes the Dipsea.  I think that our group was very motivated to try the Dipsea this season.  Don't forget that you need to request an application early (www.dipsea.org) and that the application needs to be sent in on the date required.  Also, don't forget that the Dipsea does offer college scholarship money to dipsea participants--another reason to do it!!! Our very own Briana Van Epps was a Dipsea scholar winner!!

Full Moon Run without the Moon!! Oh wait, there it is!!

We had lots of fun at tonights full moon run.  We finally saw the moon on our way out!!
Still, the challenge of running in the dark and seeing the city lights was awe inspiring.
Congrats to those who ventured the full 5.36 miles, with over 1000 feet in elevation climbing.
Go to Photos to see all the fun!

Golden Gate Bridge--a first for many!!

A group of twelve teens and a handful of adults ran or walked across the Golden Gate Bridge today.  It was a nice cool, foggy morning--perfect running weather.  Congrats to all those who have never run or even walked across the Golden Gate Bridge.  You are the envy of those who have never made the journey.  For many of us, we come back each year to recognize the annual Avon Breast Cancer walk that takes place the same morning.  Coach probably had the record today for the most "high-5s".  Other firsts included probably the longest runs ever by many of you--some ran the full round-trip of the bridge which is 1.80 miles each way--for a total of 3.60 miles.  Others extended their run down to Chrissy Field and the Fort below--for a total of 7.40 miles!!!

Photos are found at the photos link....

Stinson Beach is Wet and Wild!!

Over "20" runners ran up and down Stinson Beach to cool off from the Marin County heat wave.  We even went in the water afterwards--to cool off those aching legs and feet!! The run was followed by a nutritious meal at the beach.  Fun for all!!!

Photos can be found at photos link...

Saturday, February 3
