American Eagles Girls Basketball Club: Welcome
WELCOME TO THE AMERICAN EAGLESThe American Eagles Girls Basketball Club, from Cohoes, New York, has completed its twenty-seven season, the fourteenth under the auspices of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), and we are also a member of the Eastern Girls Basketball Association. It has been very gratifying to watch the girls grow athletically, physically and socially over the years. The knowledge, skills and abilities of each girl have been enhanced by the club's program. The degree of that enhancement is determined by the amount of commitment of each individual girl.
The Club, like most volunteer organizations, has the need for services as well as the funds for its existence from many areas of our communities. Our coaching staff, on behalf of the girls and parents, wish to thank all of those who have contributed in any way to our program. Our special thanks to Saint John Academy in Rensselaer NY . We hope that the American Eagles may continue to receive the support in this coming year as we have in the past years.
The Purpose of the American Eagles Girls Basketball Club is to develop individual skills through a formalized instructional program. Several game offenses are used which allow the players the freedom to utilize their individual skills. It is the Club's desire to see the players cope with situations on their own, rather than be spoon-fed solutions. The games are the instruments that allow us to measure the level of development of each individual girl. In accordance with these goals, playing time is divided equally among team players. Equal playing time has greatly increased the confidence in the girls, since the girls realize that they will be allowed to play through their mistakes, rather than be penalized via substitutions, etc... This increased confidence has allowed all the girls to achieve moments of absolute brilliance to balance out the normal mistakes inherent in any learning process. All the girls have benefited, rather than the normal five or six main players on most teams.
Specifically, the American Eagles Club stresses weak hand development, rapid game play and its accompanying rapid decision making, aggressive competition against other college-bound players and the development of game confidence. The club strives to have its players be able to contribute on a college level. The American Eagles are invited to compete in many high profile tournaments and the Club gains exposure for its members to college recruiters and the scholarships which they offer.
