Welcome to Troop 55's website. You'll find notes and announcements from meetings, camping schedules, merit badge links and other information. Announcements: February 6, 2012
February Campout
February Campout will take place at Camp Naish this weekend, February 10-12, 2012.
Monday, February 20th Troop Meeting
The Troop meeting on February 20th will be game night.  Please bring a scout appropriate board game to the meeting.  If you are not sure if your game will qualify, see Mr. Heschmeyer or the Senior Patrol Leader.
Troop Elections
Our next troop elections will take place on February 27th.  As always, if you are interested in running for a leadership position in your patrol on in the troop, Mr. Heschmeyer needs to know.  There is a form in the cabin that you will complete and turn into Mr. Heschmeyer.  No more scraps of paper please.  These need to be turned in by February 13th.
Leadership Positions
The Troop is looking for scouts interested in becoming Troop Guides for the upcoming year.  We have an awesome group of new scouts joining next month and we're going to need an awesome group of troop guides to work with them this coming year.  If you are interested, see Mr. Heschmeyer.
Scout Sunday
Scout Sunday is February 26.  Chaplain's Aides and other scouts need to attend.  Support Westside Prebysterian Church.
New First Year Scouts
Monday, March 5th will be the first meeting for this year's new scouts.  The following weekend will be the camp-in.  We are looking for Senior Patrol Staff and Troop Guides to help out with this event in the afternoon and evening, and overnight if you like, or Saturday, March 10th.
Day Camp
The call has gone out for Day Camp Staff.  You must be 14 years old to be on staff.  Applications are in the back of the cabin.  If you are interested, complete the application and turn into Mr. Heschmeyer.
Black Jack Battlefield Trust
The Black Jack Battlefield Trust is having their annual work day on March 31, 2012 starting at 9:00 a.m.  They would love some help clearing trails and removing brush.  If you are interested in helping out, more information is located on the bulletin board.
Family Campout
Our June Campout will be our annual Family Campout.  We are looking for another adult leader to honcho this campout.  Please see Mr. Heschmeyer or Ms. Marsh if you are interested.
Flag Patrols
Flag Patrol for February is the Bobwhite Patrol and Service Patrol is the Cougar Patrol.
Announcements: January 9, 2012
Monday, January 16th
Due to the Martin Luther King Day Holiday, there will be no troop meeting.  We will meet again the following week, January, 23, 2012.
Troop Leadership Training
Troop Leadership Training (TLT) will take place on Saturday, January 28, from 9:00 a.m. till noon.  All scouts that are interestedin running for a leadership position in the troop are required to take this training.  All scouts that have joined the troop since last January's training should plan on attending.  There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board.  This training changed a couple of years ago, so if you have not completed TLT in the last two years you need to attend as well.  If you have taken the training, you are still invited to attend.
Troop Elections

Service Patrols
We have started the Service Patrol that was decided in last month's PLC meeting.  Patrol leadres for the service patrols need to see Mr. Tharp for their service assignment each meeting.  January's Service Patrol is the Cobra Patrol.
January 23rd Troop Meeting
Just a reminder to bring in small short cans, (tuna fish, cat food, etc.) to use at troop meeting on January 23rd.   Also if you have any old candles or paraffin, bring those as well.
February Campout
The February Campout will take place February 10-12th at Camp Naish.  We will be hiking the Rimrock Trail.  Cost is estimated to be no more than $10. A sign up sheet has been posted on the bulletin board.  A informational flyer and permission slips were handed out last night at the troop meeting.  See Michael H. or Lucas M. if you need either document.  The documents were also sent out by Mr. Braden by email.
Bartle 2012
January Bartle Payment is due.  Please put your payment in a payment envelope and turn into Mrs. Waisner.
March Campout
Our March Campout will take place March 17-20th on the Richland Trails in Arkansas.  More information and sign up sheet will be forthcoming.

Announcements: December 12, 2011
Venture Leader Training
This Saturday, December 17th we will be conducting Venture Leader Specific Training for any adults interested in being registered with the Venture Crew.  It will start at 10:30 a.m. and will take place at the cabin.  The training should last about 3 hours.
Wilderness Survival Campout
Those Scouts and Scouters who have not paid for this past weekend's Wilderness Survival Campout should put their $2 fee in a troop envelope and place it in the mailbox for Mr. Heschmeyer.
Annual Troop Holiday Party
Next Monday, December 19th will be our Annual Troop White Elephant Gift Exchange & Holiday Party.  This will be a Class B Event.   Remember you are not allowed to purchase a gift.  So clean your rooms, start looking in your closets and under your beds, or grab your present from last year to find that perfect gift you can't wait to get rid of.   Each Patrol is asked to contribute to the cracker barrel for the Holiday Party.  Each Patrol's assigned contribution is:
Bob White Patrol: One box of snack Crackers per patrol member
Cobra Patrol: One 2 Liter bottle of soda or juice per patrol member
Cougar Patrol: One bag of chips per patrol member
Wolf Patrol: One package of cookies or dozen baked good per patrol member
Owl Patrol: One brick of cheese per patrol member
Troop: Summer Sausage, ice, plates, cups and napkins.
Monday, December 26th
We will not have a formal Troop Meeting on Monday, December 26th.
Troop Movie Night
Movie Night will take place on December 30th, where we will watch the following movies, Smokey and the Bandit, Spaceballs, and Airplane. The cabin will open at 7:00 p.m., with movies starting at 7:30 p.m. We will be watching movies on the big screen, eating snacks by the fire and having a late night pizza party.  We will serve a quick breakfast and ask that everyone depart by 8:30 a.m. in the morning.  Cost for this event is $5 per scout.
Philmont Treks
Troop 55 and  Venture Crew 2055,
 Troop 55 and Venture Crew 2055 have each received a trek for 2013.  In order to go the scout needs to be 13 and have completed 8th grade by June 1, 2013.  The scout also needs to be at Star Rank or above as per troop policy.  In order to secure a spot a non refundable $100 deposit per person will be due by January 30th 2012.  Total cost for the trip Should be in the $940-$970 per person range.  This cost would include all travel expense and training expenses.  Souvenir expenses would be on top of this estimate.  Of course this is only an estimate and costs may go up depending on the economy in 2013.  The dates for the two treks are as follows:
Venture crew 2055:   Arrival date  6/13/13--Departure date 6/25/13.
Troop 55:  Arrival date 6/22/13--Departure date 7/4/13.
In your planning you will need to allow an extra day on the front side and an extra day on the return date.  It will depend on the mode of travel.  We will work out specifics of filling each trek as we get interest and reservations turned in.  If you have any questions let Mr. Pfeifer know.
Popcorn Money
All popcorn money is due to Mrs. Pfeifer, please get your money turned in.  Congratulations are in order to top popcorn seller, Ted S. He filled up 3 order forms.  Way to go Ted!
Recharter Fees
We have a few scouts/scouters who have not paid their recharter fees.  Please get your money turned into Mr. Pfeifer.  Fees are Scouts   $60.00 plus $10.00 for Order of the Arrow
Adult Leaders $15.00 plus $10.00 for Order of the Arrow.
January Campout
January is our Omaha Zoo Campout.  If you are interested in going, sign up on the bulletin board, and a $30 deposit which is your commitment to go is due next Monday, November 12th.  The campout will be January 14th - 15th, 2012.
Flag Patrols
Flag Patrol for December is the Cougar Patrol and for January it will be the Wolf Patrol.


BSA Health Form

The forms have changed and there is a new BSA policy that requires a new health form/medical exam every year for summer camp.
