Captain Shane T. Adcock Amphitheater -Project update December 2007
December 2007 Much work has been done on the site. Thank you to Clint Norris, our troop, Shane's family and friends for all of the help and leadership on this project. The amphitheater was rebuilt in time for all scouts to enjoy at summer camp. The view of the lake is pretty awesome! A few of the upgrades we wanted have not been completed as we are still $2000 short of our goal. We will continue to work at it until the dedication this coming May 2008. Thank you to Mrs. Mary Dickerson for designing the patch to commemorate this event! Please let Clint Norris know if you can help in any way. Again this project will be dedicated in May of 2007 stay tuned for details.
April 2007
I want to make you aware of a soldier and Troop 521 Eagle Scout, Captain Shane T. Adcock from Mechanicsville, who lost his life in Iraq and an effort underway by Boy Scout Troop 521 and friends, with the help of the Hanover Rotary Club Foundation, to create a memorial in his honor.
Captain Shane Timothy Adcock grew up in Mechanicsville, Virginia where he earned the Eagle Scout Award in 1996 as a member of Boy Scout Troop 521. Eagle Scout is the highest rank that a boy can obtain in Boy Scouts. Shane was a respected leader and a great friend to many. Shane’s grandfather, a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, was his inspiration for military service. Shane joined the Army ROTC program while attending Longwood University. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and later received his commission as an officer. Shane was deployed to Afghanistan where he served for more than a year, returned on leave, and married Jennifer Skeele. He was promote d to Captain and was then redeployed to Iraq. On October 11, 2006, Shane lost his life while involved in combat operations north of Baghdad, Iraq. He holds both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service and sacrifice.
Boy Scout Troop 521 and friends will renovate and upgrade the amphitheater and sound system at Camp T. Brady Saunders in Goochland County, Virginia. This amphitheatre is used for campfire and other presentations throughout the year, and especially during the summer when thousands of boys attend summer camp. We will dedicate the amphitheater site as the “Captain Shane T. Adcock Amphitheater.” We will create a modest, fitting memorial to depict his life of brave service and sacrifice. The work for this extensive project is scheduled for May and will be completed in time for summer camp 2007.
The Hanover Rotary Club Foundation is supporting this effort by collecting and managing donations in addition to their generous monetary contribution. They are a 501.c3 organization and all donations are 100% tax deductible. A thank you letter will be provided to each donor as a receipt. Checks made out to “Hanover Rotary Club Foundation” with “Adcock Amphitheater” noted on the memo line can be mailed to:

As an incentive for contributions, we will incorporate a name or corporate logo into the memorial for those that contribute $3,000 or more.
Thank you for your support of this project.
