| Creating the leaders of tomorrow... |
As a small troop in town we are trying to build on the excellence we have already achieved with our Scouts. Please help us repair our trailers, maintain our camping gear, with transportation to and from summer camps and to recruit more leaders of tomorrow.

Welcome to Texas Troop 5
What's Happening with Troop 5?
Eight Scouts from Troop 5 attended the merit badge college on Saturday, 12/05 at Kennedale High School. We'll get all the blue cards at the Tejas District Round Table in January. Thanks to Mack and Charlie for overseeing this event. Hopefully we will have lots of badges to hand out at the next Court of Honor!
Hayden's Eagle Project was a great success! He collected enough food and donations for several THOUSAND meals for the Tarrant County Food Bank. Great job, Hayden! Thanks to the Texas Brahmas for their support and all the Scouts who pitched in!
The first Cross Timbers Camporee for Troop 5 was a lot of fun! The Dudes won 2nd place for one of the events and generally Troop 5 was well represented. At the campfire, the guys performed two of the songs they learned at summer camp. (Zach would have been proud!) Great job, Scotty!
CONGRATULATIONS to Cameron, Troop 5's new newest Eagle!
TROOP 5'S BIG ADVENTURE IS ONLINE: Follow all the fun and activities of the Scouts of Troop 5 at 2009 Worth Ranch summer camp. Read all about it at Scoutmaster Shugart's blog -> The Bentfinger Chronicles
ON THE MOVE: Troop 5 is proud to now be part of Cross Timbers District of Longhorn Council!

We are sponsored by The Kiwanis Club of Arlington
The Kiwanis Club of Arlington supports many different youth activities in greater Arlington. One of these youth activities is Troop 5. The Kiwanis Club of Arlington Chartered Troop 5 in 1997. Through their generous financial support of the troop, the troop has two trailers to hold over $10,000 worth of camping equipment for the boys of the Troop. In addition to equipment, the Kiwanis Club of Arlington has provided scholarship to boys to go to the National Scout Jamboree, Summer Camp, Northern Tier High Adventure and Philmont Scout Ranch. Troop 5 is very fortunate to have active support of its Chartering Organization. The Annual Fund Raiser for the Kiwanis Club of Arlington is the Pancake Breakfast. In addition to working the event, each boy of Troop 5 sells tickets to help support the Kiwanis and the Troop.

Scoutmaster Update...
Good afternoon-
I have a few moments at my desk I thought I would seed a note.
First, welcome to the “Dudes” from 421. They crossed over last Tuesday and our little troop is growing. We will put them in their own patrol and expect some healthy competition with the Scorpions.
Second, thanks to all the boys from the Troop that attended the crossover. I would list them, but I would fear that I would miss one. We looked good. (Phillip or Dan - could you help me on who was there? It is important)
Third, speaking of looking good - If you want a new fleece, I have priced them at $35. We will be taking orders for the next couple of weeks. Fourth, the troop is going to the Tejas District Spring Camporee. March 20-22, 2009. Yes its spring break and no, I do not pick the dates.
Finally, we are going to have a new parents meeting in the near future. It will not be on a Monday night. I am working with Randy to come up with a date. Scouting is full of paperwork.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Greg
