Meeting called to order 7pm

Minutes from April 13, 2007 were approved.

As of September 2007 Mr. Van Orden will be stepping down as Scout Master for our troop. He will have more work obligations and will also be spending more time with daughter and being a soccer coach for her team. Rob will still be very active in the troop.

If anyone is interested in the position please let Rob or John Sobus know. The counsel does provide training and you will need to have a background check and then the committee will vote on the next scout master.

ADVANCEMENT CRITERIA:

The troop has been sent out emails and given the chance to talk and learn about the criteria that the troop is setting up for the boys and parents.
John Sobus says that it is guideline, room for exceptions, flexibility to advance and have goals.
Mary Jane wanted us to define the activities. It is just what is planned for the year or can things be added on?
Friday meetings and monthly outings will be the primary determination for attendance. Last minute additions to the schedule will be treated like extra credit. The whole idea is to be active in the troop.
Rob has talked with the boys who are not meeting the goals and could be impacted. If things come up for the boys all they need to do is let someone know in advance if they can and the troop will work with them.
Marne says that it is good for new boys and parents.
This is long over due for the troop. Big Thank You to Mr. Whitham for writing up the criteria, he did a great job.

Mr. Sobus moved to adopt the criteria into place and Danette seconded the motion and the committee was all in favor. It is now a part of Troop 336 rules and regulations.
Members to vote were John Sobus, Danette Lam, Sandy Kon and Shirley Ohmie

SUMMER CAMP:

24 boys have committed to go and 3 adults with possible 1 more to join us. There will be tons of things for the boys to do and tons of Merit Badges to earn.

Summer camp: $940 deposit
Summer camp $90 is due now and the remaining $90 is due May.

Active in the troop: There are currently 33 boys registered in Troop 336

Mr. Whitham has written up a proposed Advancement and Leadership Criteria and the committee along with parents reviewed these criteria and we were all pretty much in agreement with what was written. There were one or two things that were addressed and will need to be revised.   Mr. Whitham will revise the Criteria for the troop and send out by email and have available at next scout meeting for troop and parents to look at and make comments so that at the next committee meeting in May the committee can vote and put into place our new Advancement and Leadership Criteria for Troop 336.

We need the boys to be accountable for what they do. Especially if a boy is working his way to Eagle Scout.

Boys will be strongly encouraged to work toward the First Class rank so that they will be knowledgeable on camp outs and hikes. Merit badges are for the boys to do on their own.
The troop would like for the boys to be able to make it in the world, lead a meeting or be responsible for people at a work place.

But there are always situations that come up and all the troop asks for is that boys relay any concerns to the Scout Master and any troop leader and things will be taken into consideration. Communications is very important and encouraged. The Scout Master does have the final word.

It was agreed that an Attendance book be available instead of separate sheets of paper that could get lost and that the Secretary and the Scribe both keep track of attendance book.

Leadership positions are from June to December; every 6 month there is an election. If a boy wants to take a position that is not filled all he need do is talk with Scout Master. Things are flexible and workable. The idea is for a boy to set a high goal and for us not to discourage them from following through.

Ape Caves in May. We need to have an adult to take charge with other adults to help. At one point Mr. Johnson said he may be interested in this outing but we need to find out for sure. Mr. Preiser may also be interested in helping with this outing.

Mr. Van Orden bought 3 new cook kits for $180. He is also ordering new Class B tee shirts for new boys and any other person who is interested.

Flaming Falcons: Patrol leader – Alex Norton, Assistant leader – Andrew Osborn, also in the group Michael, Justin, John, Ryan.

Meeting was called to order at 6:44pm

Minutes from October 19, 2006 were approved.

No Treasurers Report: Book under painter’s tarp.

Active in the troop:

What are the troop’s rules for “Active in the troop”? As of present the
troop does not have a written policy.   Mr. Whitham and Mr. Sobus have
volunteered to write up a policy for the committee to look over and approve.

The discussion was that Eagle and Life scouts need to be active at least 6 months and go to 50% of the meetings and outings. Also Life scouts need to have leadership roles while being active in the troop. Star scouts 4 months active in meetings and outings. This will help with rank advancement. Also having the boys write down their goals while in the process of rank advancement was mentioned. All of this and more will be looked into by Mr.
Sobus and Mr. Whitham as they write the policy for the troop.

What requirements can parents sign off for rank advancement?

Eagle scouts and any scout with leadership ranks can not have their own parents sign off on requirements. First class scouts can sign off on Tenderfoot and Second class rank requirements.

New boys coming into the troop once they are established in groups can if they so choose, work on requirements and activities in the book as a group.

Summer Camp: July 22-28

11 scouts have paid and are registered. Older scouts have not replied.
Our 2 Eagle scouts will not be at camp.
13-14 of Troop 336 may yet still sign up to go.

Medical forms are good for 3 years. Some of our boys need to update their forms.
Boys will need to bring their own tents for summer camp this year.

Crossover:

Crossover for Troop 317 is March 3 at 7pm. Mr. Jaquish, Mr.Sobus and Mr.
Van Orden will be there to welcome the 9 boys to our troop.   March 29th 2
boys from Troop 313 and maybe 2 more boys from Troop 312.

All the boys will get a package made up by Mr. Van Orden that includes
forms, troop tee shirt, scarf, tie clasp and red shoulder straps and more.
Also once the boys are established in our troop the PLC’s will be given a
group to guide and help along the way.

April Campout:

Deception Pass has to be changed to Camp Kopachuck or closer.

Bush Master 2000 Leadership Camp for First class or above is $180 dues.

Mr. Van Orden was given permission to purchase equipment for the troop. 3
Camping Cook sets at $69 each. Really cool sets of pots, pans etc.

Mr.Sobus has donated 8-9 pair of boots that are in the shed for any boy who
needs boots. Go check it out!

Next committee meeting should be 2 or 3 week of April

Meeting adjourned at 7:26pm
