Orienteering at Core Creek Park

Orienteering at Core Creek Park - Sunday, December 11th (11:30 a.m.-6 p.m.)

 Troop orienteering competition (teams of 2-3) on a pre-determined course through Core Creek Park. Scouts will only require their compass and two bottled waters. No food will be provided and no fee to participate.

Required for second or first class advancement and a great way to refresh your orienteering skills! 

 Sign-up at December 5th troop meeting

Meet at scout trailer at 11:30am sharp and scouts will return at 6PM. Eat lunch prior to arrival, bring snacks if you want to. Class A or B uniform. We will need several volunteer drivers to transport scouts to/from Core Creek.

Orienteering/Biking at Washington Crossing

Orienteering & Biking Weekend

Due to Staurday's inclement weather, please note changes to this weekend's trip effective Thursday, October 27th 

 Saturday, October 29th:

Those attending will now meet Saturday morning at 7:30AM at the scout garage. Be prepared for a cold, wet day, compass, watch, bag lunch and water. The troop will drive to Washington Crossing, attend a compass/orienteering session starting at 9am and with the competition starting at 11am. The troop will not have food or water so those attending must bring their own - suggest bringing a day pack. All will return to the scout garage before dinner Saturday night as there will be no tent camping. Those that may not have signed up originally could now attend provided we have drivers. This event is particularly important for scout advancement in 2nd and first class.

Sunday, October 30th:
Sunday is supposed to be much nicer, dry and mid 50's. Arrive at the scout garage Sunday at 11AM with bike, helmet, bag lunch and water - suggest a day pack to cary lunch & water. Troop will drive to Washington Crossing State Park, bike down the Delaware canal and be done by 3PM and back to the scout garage by 4-5pm.

When: Friday 10/28 - Sunday 10/30 - meet at scout garage Friday 10/28 @ 5pm - depart 6pm sharp - Class A uniform, returning Sunday 10/30 ~4pm

Bring a bag dinner or eat before departure 

Cost: $25

Saturday - NJ Orienteering Championships for Scouts - Bring a Compass if you have one 

Sunday - Bike Delaware Canal tow path, bike helmets required, bike lock recommended, flat safe path with no motorized vehicles

We will be hiking and camping at Ricketts Glenn State Park April 29-May 1st.

We will meet at the Scout Garage at 4:00 pm. Please bring a sandwich and drink for dinner on the way. Dont forget your chair!

High Adventure Trip 2011

 High Adventure 2011

We will be Camping on Martin Island in Lower Saranac Lake, Saranac Lake, New York.

Leaving the Scout garage on the morning of Tuesday, June 21st and arriving back on Sunday afternoon June 26th.

Martin Island is boat access only, so we will be canoeing to the island and transporting our gear and supplies by boat.

Itinerary to include canoeing, camping, hiking Ampersand Mountain (3352' Summit), fishing and exploring. Due to the physical challenge and rigorous nature of this trip, attendees will be limited to current second year Scouts or older only.

White Water Rafting

White Water Rafting @ Jim Thorpe April 8-10th

Be the first to brave the early season water in the Lehigh Valley Gorge! Tent camping at the rafting location and two days of some of the best white water rafting the Lehigh Valley Gorge has to offer. Early season provides the best conditions with dam releases on a scheduled basis to make sure there is plenty of water. Wet suits and adrenaline keep you warm throughout the day with warm showers waiting back at the site.

Payment must be made at the March 28th Troop meeting.

 Depart Friday, April 8th @ 4 p.m. from the scout garage and return Sunday April 10th late afternoon.

Washington DC - Sat, March 5th - Sun, March 6th

 Tour of Capital Building, Library of Congress (not the tourist tour, the special, Mr. Taylor has an inside connection tour) and a museum. Overnight at Bolling Air Force Base in 6-8 person suites (bunks). DC Metro Rail ride from/to Dolling Air Force Base and Capital Building. 

Cost: $35 per scout (includes Saturday Dinner & Sunday breakfast, Metro Rail card, tours and lodging at Air Force base) - Scout to bring $ for souvenirs & Saturday (possibly Sunday) Lunch

Depart - Leave Saturday, March 5th @ 6 a.m. (yes - 6 a.m.) from Scout garage - Eat breakfast before the 3+ hr car ride or bring breakfast in car - Class A or B uniforms

Return - Sunday, March 5th - early afternoon 

Packing List - One overnight, comfortable clothes including jacket for outdoor short hikes between tours and good walking shoes (sneakers ok). Sleeping bag, pillow, towel & toiletries - no snacks. Pack light as we are not taking scout trailer, spending $, camera. Day packs are typically not permitted on tours. Class A or B shirt to be worn Saturday.

Ski Trip to Elk Mountain February 11-13th

Feb. 11-13th, departing the Scout garage at 4pm. Return on Sunday late afternoon.

** Note: Use the Cold Weather-Ski Packing list in the handouts section as a guide. There is no need to bring a mat or air mattress because there are mattresses at the cabin.

** Please pack a sandwich for dinner to be eaten on the way to Elk Friday night. We will not be stopping to eat. You may bring extra spending money if you would like.

Cost: $125.00 per person.  This includes two day lift ticket, lodging at Camp Archbald, all meals including lunch at slopes both days. If you need to rent skis add $47.00 for the two day rental. (Scouts - use your scout $! - from Poinsettia sales)

Ultra Zone Laser Tag-Monday, December 27th

On Monday the 27th, the troop is scheduled to go to Ultra Zone in Bensalem. The cost is $20 and it includes 3 games of laser tag, 2 slices of pizza and some soda. You may bring extra money for games if you would like. You can carpool or just have your parents drive you and pick you up. Meet at the scout garage at 11:15 and we will be coming back at about 2:30.

Bring $20 to the event and give to Mr. Cusick.

C.O.P.E. Program at Ockanickon - November 13-14th

What: Ockanikon offers a climbing program over 1.5 days that teaches boys rope climbing skills at low, high and rock climbing levels. The low program teaches basic climbing, teamwork & safety skills followed by the high program which is 20+ feet off the ground in the tree canopy ending in an 100+ yard zip-line. The program finishes Sunday morning with a rock climbing program at Stover State Park right next to Ockanikon.  

Scouts who participated in the COPE program last year will be eligible for the Climbing merit badge this year. Saturday night includes classroom work necessary for those seeking the climbing merit badge. Go to the "Advancement & Merit Badge" link from the home page,  download the merit badge work sheet and bring to the Nov 8th Troop meeting (only those who attended COPE last year and this year).    

Where: Ockanickon - Quobosco camp site for Adirondak (3 sided shed) camping           

Time: Leave Scout garage Sat, November 13 @ 6:45 a.m. SHARP! Please eat breakfast & pack a lunch before arriving.  Arrive back to the garage Sun about 2:00 pm (to be verified)

Cost: $60 (COPE program, camp site & food)  Adults not doing COPE program are $10 - Due at November 8th Troop meeting

Specific items your Scout needs to bring in addition to the standard Tent Camping Packing List (link below): All participants must wear long pants (nylon or sweat pants), a long-sleeved T-shirt, UnderArmor layers, etc. for cold weather, and soft soled shoes/sneakers. Hiking boots are not permitted on the course. All climbing equipment (harnesses, ropes, helmets, and gloves) are supplied by Ockanickon. Day packs to carry personal lunch & water are recommended.

Wildwood Beach Jam at Morey's Pier - Wildwood, NJ - September 24-25th

$75 per scout due at Monday, September 12 troop meeting - no exceptions  - see the list of scouts signed up to attend below 

Tent camping on the beach! Package includes amusements, beach camping, boardwalk tram, activities, 2 breakfast and 1 dinner (Sat).  Bring money for lunches for 2 days, Sat. & Sun.  We will meet Saturday (9/24) morning 7:00am at the scout garage.

Plan to pick up your son at the scout garage ~ 4-5 p.m. Sunday. Scouts will call ahead to parents with exact time.

Gettysburg Camping Trip - Friday, October 22nd - Sunday, October 24th

Leave the Scout garage on Friday October 22nd about 4:00 pm and return Sunday October 24th about 4:00 pm. Camping at Artillery Ridge Campground, hiking in the Park on Saturday and Haunted Ghost Tour Saturday night. Various Halloween activites at the campground all day Saturday. 

Bring a bag lunch to eat on Friday while driving to Gettysburg - Wear Class A uniform.

Whitewater Rafting on the Lower Youghiogheny River

What:  Leave the Scout garage on Thursday June 24, midday and return Sunday June 27 late afternoon. Attendance is reserved to current second year Scouts and older only.

Where: Camping at Laurel Hill State Park.  Rafting Friday and Saturday on the Lower Yough (Class III and IV rapids) in Ohiopyle, PA.

We will be attending camp from 07/24/2011 to 07/30/2011 and be camping at the Frontier campsite (water view).

Merit Badge Pre-requisites - the following merit badges have prerequisites to be handed into the Camp Rodney merit badge counselor in order to receive full credit for the merit badge.
