Triad Youth Rugby
Triad Youth Rugby is a not for profit organisation established to grow the participation of school students in the great sport of rugby.
We were established in 2007 as a U15 team under the Head Coach David Sgroi. We had a very young team that year but the players had great fun and youth rugby was established in the Triad Region.
In 2008 our U15 team a year older and more experienced reached the State final where we lost to an excellent Hoke County team.
In 2009 we went one step further and won the State Championship on our home ground at Prohelific Park against the Chapel Hill Highlanders. Just as exciting in 2009 was the establishment of a U19 and U13 team.
Once the contact season concluded we ran a touch rugby series in June against opponents from Raleigh and Chapel Hill. It was a great introduction for many under 11 kids.
For the 2010 season we shall have a U13/U15 and hopefully A and B teams in the U19 category.
COME AND JOIN US. IF YOU HAVE NEVER PLAYED BEFORE DO NOT WORRY - THERE IS ROOM ON THE FIELD FOR ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE AND PHYSICAL BUILD.
Practice Resumes - Nov 7th
Practice resumes on November 7th at Glenwood Recreation Center from 10:00-11:30 am.
Northern Elementary Rookie Rugby Club
One of our assistant coaches, Mr Norm Wilhelm, has launched a Rookie Rugby Club at Northern Elementary School. The fifth grade teacher took the opportunity to launch a club that runs for 6 weeks in the Fall and 6 weeks in Spring. They have 24 players split into 4 teams. Many more kids wanted to join but the numbers had to be restricted! The Club program runs during school hours. Norm has received outstanding support from the players/coaching staff of UNCG Rugby and we thank them for their support of the community.
Want to run your own touch rugby or host a clinic at your school/church/youth organisation? Contact us and we'll gladly support you and help you get established.
