Welcome to the North Stars website. On the site you can find team schedules, roster, coming events, and more. Sign our guestbook.
A little bit of history on the team, started some 18 or 20 years, the Treherne North Stars team was a team put together to play in a non-contact/no slapshot league. Competing with other local towns, the North Stars were a young hungry team made up of mostly or once local people. The scores never matter usually, its more the exercise and the after game festivities that the guys come out for. The league boasted cross-town rivals in a number of towns, and Treherne was no different. The Blues, also made up Treherne locals, made up some exciting matches (ya right). The league didn't last long but most of the teams did. The Blues underwent a rebuilding year last year, bringing in new players and re-naming as the Geysers. The rivalry is still there, the two teams still play probably 4 times a year.
The North Stars have made a lot of roster moves over the years, some players on the current team have played 10-12 years.
The team has a current roster of 20 players. Ranging in ages from 19 to 34. With the team playing between 2 and 3 times per week, the team plays between 40 and 50 games per year. The team travels as far as Neepawa and Starbuck or Sanford for away games, and has participated in tournaments in Minot, N.D., Plumas, Carman, Austin, MacGregor. (if I'm forgetting any, please leave a message or Email)(I'm sure there are some we'd like to forget.)
On a more serious note, we would also like to show some of the North Star accomplishments over the years. On the Sunday of the May long weekend since 91' The North Stars Hockey Club have held a Slow Pitch Softball Tournament and social evening. This Tournament which once had 16 teams in the one day tournament and maybe a few hundred at the social has now grown into one of Treherne's largest community events each year. The tournament now holds 32 teams on 9 diamonds and takes in about 1200 people at the social held in the rink. Each year is new experience, growing in numbers and attendance. The town increases in size by an estimated 2000 to 2500 people. The campgrounds fill now 3 days before the tournament begins. The money raised each year has helped pay for the team's ice fees, new jersey's, goalie equipment and basic team needs over the winter season. Also I'd like to list a few of the cash donations to the community over the past 10 years;
$10 000 to the Tiger Mountain Pool for improvements and an expansion. 1999
$10 000 to $15 000 to the Treherne Skating Rink for Plexiglass, rink improvements, donations to the artificial ice fund, and the new bleachers. (1991-2001)
A set of North Star jersey's for the 13+under hockey team.(approx $1000.)
1999
$500 to each school for sports gear improvements. 2000
$1500 to Treherne High School Track Team for new equipment in return for help in grounds and rink clean up after the tournament. 2001
Donations to the campgrounds have also been made, in the form of a cash donation and also 10 picnic tables with a price tag of over $1200. 1999
Also donated money for local people in need of assistance for such things as medical costs or loss in fires.
The North Stars have also helped with teammates dental costs if an injury occurs while playing.
Also approx. $1500 to the local minor hockey to help pay for tournament costs.
$7500 to Zamboni Fund. (2002)
There are numerous other donations to which will be added.
Take a look through our site, sign our guestbook, leave a message, and come back to it, there will be news and pictures added almost daily.
