Hawks Make Impressive Showing Finishing 3rd in the GOLD Division of the 2006 BPA World Series!

The 9U Decatur Hawks Elite Travel Team traveled to the 2006 BPA World Series in Alabaster Alabama this past week. They put on quite a show finishing 3rd in the GOLD DIVISION and impressed a lot of teams, coaches, and people in the south.

We start off with an unfair advantage to 95% of the teams down there. The majority of the teams we faced had at least 20 more games of experience on us because they can start playing so much earlier in the year than us!

With temperatures in the upper 90's the entire week the boys also had some new elements that they had to deal with that many of the other southern teams were already familiar with as well.

The goal from the beginning of the year was to make a better showing then the previous year at the BPA World Series. Well, we didn't make it to the championship game but we did place 3rd in the GOLD Division! We did not make it to the gold division in 2005. A few of us was concerned about stepping up and advancing to the gold division this year. Some thought the we might not be able to compete with the TOP teams in the south. Some thought that we would be better suited to try and go into the Silver division. I think we proved all doubters wrong!

WE CAN COMPETE WITH THE BEST WHEN WE COME TO PLAY! The Decatur Hawks vs. GT Stingers showed that to everyone! What many fans, coaches, tournament representatives, and directors said was by far the best game of the entire weekend. At one time in that game the players, fans, and other teams were 4 and 5 deep from first base all the way around the backstop to third base watching this exciting 2-1 game! We felt that the GT Stingers were the best team in the tournament and we gave them all they wanted down to the very last out. It was a tough and difficult defeat but I feel we learned more from that one loss then any win through out the entire season!

A special congratulations goes out to Connor (C-Ray) Ray for finishing 2nd in the bunting contest. Connor competed against over 100 boys and scored a possible 32 out of 50 points to finish runner up! Nice Job C-Ray!

This is a GREAT team and I am proud of everyone of them individually. Every player had a special part in putting this team where we are today. Everyone has great days and everyone has bad days! THAT IS BASEBALL! It's the true players that have the love for the game that can overcome the bad days, learn from it, and make themselves better players, better teammates, and most importantly of all better young men!
