REFLECTING ON THE SEASON

Coach Britt and Trew were alone at the pool Monday.  There was a quiet calm on the water and around the facility without any of the players around.   It gave them a chance to reflect on the season. "The season just flew by this year," said Coach Britt. "It seems like yesterday we were asking each other whether we will get access to the Tracy pool next week."

"We are very pleased to get 5 players on both SJAA All-League teams. It is nice to see their hard work payed off and they got noticed by the other SJAA coaches. "They have established a nice base for us and the underclassmen need to keep it going for next year.

"We are working on some things that will make our program even better next year," said Coach Britt.

The coaches stated they would like to thank all the parents for their support. They specifically called out the Booster Club and Ms. McCary for coming back to scorekeep. He also thanked the parents that took pictures and contributed to the website.

"The program is heading in the right direction with all the players and parents hard work. Let's keep the momentum going into 2010! "See you at the year-end party."

GOOD LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR JV GIRLS AT TOURNEY

The scorebook for the Lodi tournament will show three losses, however Coach Keith Britt was far more upbeat then a 1-3 showing might indicate.  "It was a good learning experience for us today.  It was hard playing four games on a warm day, associated with homecoming weekend, etc," said Britt.  "We just let a few periods get away from us and it turned into a swim meet that we could not finish.  When we had good spacing and made good passes, we looked good against some very strong JV teams."

Coach Britt also wanted to thank the parents that made the decision to go to Panera Breads over Pizza.  "Good call."

Coach's Comments on Bear Creek Game

In a post game conference after the Bear Creek game, Coach Britt said, " It was nice to see a good turn out for our last senior home game.  The girls may have played their best game of the year.  We had a great third period when we played very well.  Girls - keep it going into your last game."

He also said, "Varsity boys played well at times in a very emotional game.  We will always take a tough loss with our heads held high and with class."

Coach thought it was interesting that the 5 yellow cards that he received this season came from the same referee.

He also wanted to say that he is, "VERY PROUD OF WHAT THIS SR CLASS HAS DONE FOR THE PROGRAM.  THEY HAVE FORMED A SOLID BASE FOR THE CLASSES TO FOLLOW."

And on a final note, he said, "LET'S FINISH THIS SEASON WITH A GREAT LAST GAME VS LODI ON THURSDAY!"

Rough Day for Bulldogs

Battling the weather conditions on Tuesday night was no easy task for the Bulldogs or their spectators.  In the rain and the wind, the Bulldogs got swept by the Lodi Flames.  Varsity Boys kept the game close for three quarters, but the Flames pulled away in the end.  More details to follow from coach Britt on the other games....

Coach Britt and Coach Trew were a bit frustrated in their post game press conference.  "We are very disappointed in the results with the performance of all four teams.  Both teams played under the same conditions and Tracy didn't show up to play and Lodi did.  Lodi handled the elements better than Tracy did," said Coach Britt.  "The players can do a lot better job in the pool if they listen more to the coaches rather than generating so many comments," said Britt.

Led by great shooting spread throughout several players and outstanding goaltending by Jake Finney the boys won 23-9.

The girls varsity won the early game 12-7.

Varsity Girls Play More Like a Team During 2nd Day of Woodcreek Tourney

In his post tournament comments from the Woodcreek Tourney, Coach Britt said that the team played much better "team water polo" today.  He also wanted to express his appreciation and that of the team for the Pombo's support of the team lunch.  Finally, he stated, "League starts on Tuesday.  We have learned a lot in the last couple of weeks about water polo.  I hope we can apply it."

In the 1st game on Saturday, Tracy beat Antelope 11 - 4 and in the 2nd game they lost to San Marin 6 - 5.

VARSITY BOYS DOMINATE WEST 26-7

boys var bench vs west
The Bench Cheers On In The Victory Over West

If you showed up a few minutes late for the varsity game, you missed the only time the score was close and the game was in doubt.  Within a couple of minutes, the starting crew of the boys varsity team had the game firmly in hand.  With every Tracy goal that kept snowballing, the frustration began to mount for the West coach and his players.  The final score was 26-7.

Seniors Jake Finney and Ben Agee who are best friends and have played for four years on varsity and in many crosstown games, led the Bulldog attack against West.  Finney was amazing in goal preventing a West score until there was only 3:31 left in the 1st half.  He also had at least 15 blocked shots.

Justin Phelps had six goals, Ben Agee five, Conner Shapre and Tyler Trew had four, and additional scorers were Tanner Silva, Brandon Jossey, Andy Levand, and Michael Samanigeo.

West will get a chance for revenge when all the teams are matched up again on Saturday October 10 at West.

Coach Britt wanted a sweep over West but instead he had to settle for a split.  The J.V. game was an exciting matchup that went to overtime and was not decided until very late with Tracy coming out on top 12-10.  The varsity matchup was over early as West put it out of reach 8-1 at the half and ended the game lopsided 17-3.

In the J.V. game, Mariah Serrato was the offensive weapon with 11 goals.  Kiraa Johnson had 8 blocks and Jenni Albee contributed with 4 blocks.   Further stats to come from the coach.

HIGH DEF VIDEO SUMMARY NOW AVAILABLE HERE 4 minutes

In the Silver State Shootout tournament in Reno this weekend, the varsity boys water polo team showed signs of being a very good team in their play against Ygnacio Valley, Elk Grove, and Reno.  In their final game against Washington High, they were physically and mentally beat by a well oiled squad.  The Bulldogs finished 2-2 and played in the playoff game for 2nd place squads.

Recap:

In the final game of the tournament, the Bulldogs lost to Washington High, 15-5.

In game 3 on Saturday morning, Tracy was matched up against Reno and the Bulldogs won 13-11.  Game should not have been that close, but Tracy looked a little lethargic in the pool.  Tracy will play at 1:00 p.m. today in the playoff game for 2nd place teams.

In game 2 at 6 p.m. Friday, the boys won against Laguna Creek of Elk Grove 14 - 4.  The win has Tracy set up to battle for a potential 2nd place finish.  Two more games are slated for Saturday.

In game 1 Friday, the boys led most of the game but fell late 7-6 to Ygnacio Valley.

IN OTHER NEWS......, Coach Britt provided an update on the play from the first game against Livermore last week.

"If you compete, good things will happen," said Coach Britt.  He wanted all his teams to focus on that message this week.  "If you think you can win, you will.  If you think you are going to lose, you are right.  Our practice and execution this week will be about understanding that competition is 10% physical and 90% mental," said Britt.

"Coach Trew and I saw some good things come out of the first game.  Livermore was a very good team but we will work on getting better with every practice and game.  I think we will be much better as we move on further into the season."

WEDNESDAY UPDATE

A reminder to re-check the schedule as a J.V. game has been added to September 30 and a girls tourney is slated for October 24.

A note to the parents.... My work schedule does not allow me to make some of the early start games.  If anyone can capture some pictures of the J.V. action, please e-mail them to me and I will post on this website.

I receive complaints from time to time that I don't provide full coverage.  My websites are not officially related to the school and I am not employed by the school.  I do this independent of the school as a hobby.  I do the best I can at making the games and balancing the demands of my real job.  Thanks for your understanding.

THE PAIN AND COMMITMENT BEGIN

conditioning1

Wednesday night update..... Day 2 of conditioning is in the books as the kids swam longer laps in the pool today.  Nothing new to report.  Athletes should report back to the West High pool on Thursday @ 6:30 p.m. for more fun.

Tuesday:  At 6:30 p.m. on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon potential Tracy High Water Polo players jumped into the West High pool for the first day of conditioning.  Under the watchful eye and direction of Coaches Trew and Britt, 40+ student athletes participated in a grueling workout.  For those who had been swimming in the off-season, the workout was intense.  For those who had less swim time and were not quite "water-ready," the 2 hours was extremenly challenging.  "This is a necessary part of the preparation for the regular season," said head coach Keith Britt.

Reno Boys Tourney info: All games are played at the Idlewild Pool at 1805 Idlewild Drive in Reno, Nevada.

Woodcreek Girls Tourney Sept 25-26:  There are 40 teams in the tournament.  Game 1 is 10 a.m. Friday vs Christian Brothers.  Game 2 is 4:40 p.m. vs Ukiah High.  Saturday schedule will be 3 games played between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Friday, August 28
RENO NOTES (for varsity boys and parents of)

Players and chaperones will leave THS at 2 p.m. on Thursday September 10.  The team is staying at the Grand Sierra Resort, Reno  (775) 789-2186.  The team will stay Thursday and Friday night.  They will checkout at 10 a.m. on Saturday and then return after the games.

The cost for the trip is $100 per player.  Make the check payable to Keith Britt.  Money for food and other functions is not included with this budget.  Players should have plenty of spending money as there are many activities at the hotel and surrounding area (go carts, bowling, movie, driving range, etc).  Any extra money from the $100 payment will be used for a team pizza night.

Four dirvers/chaperones are needed.  Please inquire with Coach Britt.  He would prefer a male chaperone (for cost effectiveness reasons) but a female chaperone can be accomodated.

This is not a mandatory tournament and it is your option to attend.  Please let coach know by Monday August 31.  Checks are due Wednesday September 9.

Coach Britt can be reached at 629-4444 or k.c.britt@gmail.com
