"It may only be two games, but we have ourselves a winning streak," said Coach Bauer.  Bauer was very pleased with the performance of his team today against Antioch.  "It's not just the winning numbers on the board, it's the fact that we are coming together as a team and developing some of the traits of a winning ball club such as communication and teamwork," said Bauer.  "I'm confident we are going to get several more wins in the next week because of the way we are doing the little things."

In the 2nd inning Dax Dibble walked, stole 2nd and 3rd and scored on a passed ball.  Ben Riley singled in the 3rd to lead off, Matt Giuliacci singled and then both scored when Alejandro De La Torre tripled.  Devin Williams would single to score De La Torre. Logan Fife smashed a ball to right center to score Williams.  Fife would eventually score after stealing bases and getting home on a passed ball.

In the 4th, De La Torre got hit by a pitch, stole 2nd and scored on a passed ball.

In the 5th, Fife reached on error, Dibble walked, Fife stole 3rd and then scored on a fielders choice hit by Ricky Adams.

In the 6th the Bulldogs found themselves trailing by a run.  Matt Giuliacci had the play of the game with a full count hit that would become an inside the park homerun to tie the game.  Williams then walked and stole 2nd.  Fife walked, the pitcher balked to score Williams.  Fife would eventually score on a passed ball.

The pitching was led by Blake Ornellas who did a fantastic job going the first three innings and holding Antioch to only 2 runs all in the 3rd inning.  Connor Johnson followed for 2 1/3 innings.  Jonathon Patino got the win with excellent work in the 6th and 7th.  With the Antioch dugout turning up the heat verbally, Patino focused on the batters, drowned out the noise and got the Panthers for 2 strikeouts and a ground out to seal the win for the Bulldogs.

Coach Bauer singled out the defensive play of Matt Giuliacci who he started at 3rd base for the first time this year.  Ricky Adams also had his best game of the year at first base scooping several balls in the dirt.   "I was very pleased with my defense today," said Bauer.

Coach Bauer had a quick press conference to highlight a few things in their game today at Granada.  With the Bulldogs down 5-1 in the 5th, they were able to get the bases loaded with 2 outs for Blake Ornellas.  He hit a massive grand slam that tied the game at 5.  In the bottom of the 6th, Granada pulled ahead again on some simple mistakes handed up by the Tracy defense.   "We are so close to putting everything together, and once we do, we are going to put together a nice string of wins, but until that time, we have to fight through the mental mistakes," said Bauer.

Matt Giuliacci carried the Bulldogs on Wednesday afternoon with a 4-4 performance connecting for 3 singles, a double, and scoring the tying run in the 8th.

Devin Williams was awesome on the mound going the first seven innings of the game and striking out 9.  He gave up 5 hits and 3 runs.  "He was like a video game, locating his pitches all around the zone and attacking.  His changeup was great," said Coach Bauer.

Robert Crivello pitched the final inning to get the save allowing just 1 hit and 1 run.

"We really attacked the strike zone with our pitching staff for the first time all year and then on offense we very aggressive," said Bauer.  Our defense shined today too.  In the 3rd inning Blake Ornellas caught a ball in right field and gunned the Turlock runner out at home.  A similar outfield assist happened in the 8th when Giuliacci got a runner on second out at home with strike to the plate.

Crivello who had been 0-3 on the day hit a ball in the 8th to left center scoring Jonathan Petino from 2nd for the winning run.

The JV will play at Manteca on Thursday and then at Granada on Saturday.  On Good Friday the JV team will practice at 9 a.m.  They will get Sunday - Tuesday off and then resume practice at 2:30 on Wednesday of next week.

Coaches Comments on the game today:  "JV starting pitcher Donovan Treolo went 4 innings and had 3 strikeouts and gave up 1 earned run in a 11-6 loss to Manteca on Tuesday.  Matt Pombo followed in relief but struggled.  Blake Ornellas came in to close giving up 1 earned run."

"We have to play better and bring more mental focus to the game.  I thnk we beat ourselves today.   What I did like was the way we scored four runs with two outs.  Out hitting is coming along but we still have a lot of work to do," said coach Daniel Bauer.

With the game tied at 9 heading into the 7th, the Tracy JV Bulldogs pulled ahead with a huge final inning to get a decsive 17-9 victory.   Coach Bauer still saw plenty of things requiring improvement in the teams early season win.  "We have got to better at making the routine plays.  We have to be quicker and more accurate with our decision making.   We did hit the heck out of the ball today, had a good approach at the plate, and were smart on the basepaths," said Coach Bauer."

Tracy would collects 15 hits on the day led by Devin Williams who went 3-4 with a 3 run triple in the 7th.  He would score 4 runs and have a beautiful drag bunt early in the game.

Alejandro De La Torre was 3 for 4 with a walk and scored 2 runs

Blake Ornellas  was 3 -4 with a double and a HBP.

JV GETS TWO VICTORIES ON SATURDAY

Tracy JV got a 3-2 win early in the day versus  Enochs.   the Bulldogs had 6 hits, no errors, behind very effective pitching from Devin Williams and Robert Crivello.

Williams scored in the first after he got on base by a hit by pitch and then scored on a Ricky Adams single.  The Bulldogs did not score again until the 6th  When Adams singled, Brandon Terry walked, Blake Ornellas got hit by a pitch, and then Crivello singled to plate the final two runs.

A crucial play in the game came in the 6th when Matt Giuliacci fielded a ball in center and threw a seed to the plate to prevent a Enochs player from scoring.

"Our defense was solid and we only struck out 3 times," said Coach Bauer.

In the 2nd game the Bulldogs dominated Edison 15-0.  "Everyone got into the game and they all contributed," said Bauer.  Marcus Corso was absolutely AMAZING on the mound striking out 14 of the 15 batters he faced.   Angel De La Torre was also perfect behind the plate receiving the ball and calling the game.

Tracy scored 8 in the first, 2 in the 2nd and 5 in the 4th.   Ben Riley tripled in the 4th with the bases loaded to plate 3 runs.

The Tracy JV team was plagued by too many strikeouts in their 2018 debut as they could only muster two runs on two hits.  Kimball would generate all the runs they needed in the top of the 3rd to defeat the Bulldogs.  Kiernan Davis got things started for the Bulldogs when he hit a deep ball to score Devin Williams.  Devin scored in the 6th when he reached on a single and scored on a passed ball.

"We struck out 11 times and could only generate 2 hits," said Coach Bauer.  I did take a positive away in terms of of the improvement I saw in our defense from the first scrimmage earlier in the week, but there is still a lot to build on.  We left five bulldogs on base today."

The starting pitcher was Kyle Mulhern who threw 3 innings, striking our 3 and walking 1.  Marcus Corso took the loss going 2 2/3 inning and striking out 4.  Devin Williams had a brief appearance and then Matt Pombo threw the final 1 1/3 innings, striking out two.

JV DISAPPOINTED IN MANTECA LOSING IN THE 7TH 4-3
JV Thurs_1
Robert Crivello Had a Good Start on Thursday - Carla Bicomong photo

Coach Bauer was a bit frustrated in his postgame comments, but he did start off with some positives.  I thought Robert Crivello pitched well.  He went 5 innings giving up just one earned run.  He kept Manteca off balance with his pitch selections.  We made the plays defensively we were suppose to behind him on defense and we had a chance to win this going into the final inning leading 3-1, but we let things unravel at the end.  We have to be mentally stronger as a team.  We beat ourselves today in this game."

The JV Bulldogs had the bases loaded three times with nothing to show for it including the 2nd inning when they had no outs with the bases juiced.  "We left 11 runners on base today and 7 of them were in scoring position," said Bauer.

Crivello went 1-4 with a double to lead off the game.  Matthew Giuliacci had one single but hit the ball hard each time up to the plate.  Jonathan Patino was 3-4 with a run scored.  Blake Ornellas was 1-1 with a triple and got hit by Manteca pitching twice.
