THE COACHING STAFF

The Tracy High School Baseball Program brings tradition in the coaching ranks as all of the coaches attended Tracy High School as student athletes.

VARSITY
Head Coach Vic Alkire
Vic is a 1962 graduate of Tracy high where he played four years of varsity ball at shortstop. He brings a wealth of coaching experience and is entering his 16th year (2009 season) as THS varsity coach. His wife Marie is actively involved in the program helping with all the fundraising.

Vic is an 8th grade teacher at Monte Vista and has 2 sons and one daughter. On the weekends he calls Waterford his home.


Assistant Varsity Coach Steve Alkire
Steve is a 1992 graduate of Tracy High and son of Vic. Steve was a multi-sport athlete and excelled at football and baseball, as well as played two years of THS basketball. In football he was selected to the "All Nor Cal Football Team" as a wide receiver.  IHe still holds many single-season receiving records at THS as well as holding the previous record for cumulative hits through a THS baseball career from 1992 to 2008 (Ryan Scornaienchi just passed him up as the new record holder).  Steve also played every position on the field (except pitcher) on multiple occasions as a Bulldog.

Pursuing a scholarship opportunity, he attended Utah State for football.

Eventually he graduated from Chapman University and later received a Masters Degree in Education. He is in his 5th year teaching 8th grade at Hawkins school and his 14th year coaching baseball.

He is married with 2 young daughters (8 and 3) and a son (1).


Assistant Varsity Coach Tony Crivello
Tony is the pitching coach at Tracy High. He is also the part owner of NorCal Sports Academy and has successfully partnered with Rob Bruno over the last 12 years to run NorCal Baseball, the most successful Baseball Club in California. Tony has been coaching the 17 Under NorCal Team for 12 years and has worked with all the players that have come through the NorCal Baseball program. Tony has coached successfully in high school beginning at Tracy High, then spent time in Fresno coaching at Central High.

SOPHOMORES

Head Coach - Ken Perez
Ken is a 1975 Tracy High graduate and student athlete. He was a catcher for Fresno state from 1976-1979, hitting .360 (2nd best average) in 1978.  During his career at Fresno, he was able to play alongside future professional baseball players Danny Gladden, Ron Johnson, Rich Bordi and Bobby Stoddard.  Ken is entering his 9th year as Sophomore coach.  He is married to Paula Perez and has 2 kids; Bailey 19 and Kyle 16.


Assistant Coach Gary Reeve - Gary is a 1976 graduate of Tracy High where he was a star first baseman and left fielder. Gary played college ball at Fresno and Modesto J.C. He received his degree from Chico State.

Assistant Coach Jim Campbell - Jim graduated from Tracy High in 1975 after 3 years playing at the varsity level at 1st base and a little bit of football. Jim played for 2 years at Delta College 79-80 where his team won the Northern California title and was ranked 3rd in the state both years.  Jim started at Delta as a 3rd stringer, but quickly got an opportunity to start and never looked back.  He also played semi-pro ball with the Stockton Caballos and the Tracy Angels.  He started helping Ken Perez 5 years ago.  Jim is a supervisor with Ameron Pipe Company in Tracy. 

Assistant Coach Matt Philpott- The newest addition to the coaching staff, Matt is a 2004 graduate of Tracy High and was a two year varsity letterman.  Played basball and football (nose guard, fullback, and linebacker) and caught all four years at Tracy High.  Played J.C. ball at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo.  Matt received a scholarship to Lambuth University in Jackson Tennesse as junior transfer.   When not helping on the baseball field, he builds hot rods.

FRESHMAN

Head Coach - Frank Marty

Frank is a Tracy native and has been coaching baseball for 21 years. After coaching his kids through the Babe Ruth program and retiring from Duel Vocational Institute(DVI)in 2002, Frank earned the Tracy High Freshman coaching job in 2002. Jerry Ortega joined him as his assistant and the two are now entering their 7th year together at THS. When baseball ends in May, Frank heads to Alaska for the summer and goes fishing.

Assistant Coach - Jerry Ortega
Jerry is an alumni of Tracy High and was a multi sport athlete at THS including baseball back in the late 60s. He has been coaching baseball for 27 years. He has spent time in the Tracy Babe Ruth program and the last 5 years assisting Coach Marty.

Assistant Coach - Manny Ramos
Manny is a 1979 graduate of Tracy High and alumni of the baseball program. He has spent 14 years coaching in Tracy Babe Ruth and just joined the THS staff in 2007 to offer his support.
