STANDING JUMP FROM A HOP START

DRILL DESCRIPTION:

From a standing start, begin to take long "bounding" strides. Try to get the feeling that you are floating in the air from each bound. You are not taking normal strides. This should be exaggerated strides with a little push off from the toes to give you the bounding action. Swing the arms up and forward at every stride.   Then when you approach the jumping point, take off on one foot. Alternate between the strong and the weak foot. Try to push off with the jumping foot as powerfully as possible. Bring the thigh of the leading leg up to horizontal at the same time that you push off with the jumping leg. Use your arms in as imilar way as you do with the standing jump: up and forward in unison. When you land bring both legs together.
