Falcons Win Season Opener Over Riverside Poly
Pirate-Falcon Classic

The Torrey Pines Falcons Varsity baseball team kicked of their season opener with a bang defeating the #4 ranked team in California. The Falcons defeated Riverside Poly 4-3 in 7 innings at Torrey Pines home field. Reid Suttor pitched into the 7th inning with Charlie Mintz coming in relief to get the save. The Falcons faced starting pitcher Lacurtis Mayes for 4 innings and was relieved by Kyle O'Campo for the rest of the game. Hector Rabago hit a solo home run for Riverside Poly in the first inning. Eric Hillenbrand hit a solo home run for Torrey Pines in the 2nd inning to tie the game 1-1. Hillenbrand went 3-3 on the day with 2 RBI and 2 runs. Walker Moore scored the tie run in the 5th by a single from Hillenbrand. The Falcons had runners on 1st and 3rd in the 6th inning with the game tied 3-3 and Nick Rodes stepped up to the plate and exucuted a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to plate the winning run of the game. Falcons defense also turned 3 double plays to end the innings, The last one coming with bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th inning giving the Falcons their first win of the season. The Falcons will face University City on Thursday and Carlsbad on Saturday.

Notable: Torrey Pines' Eric Hillenbrand went 3-for-3 with a solo homerun and two RBIs. The Falcons' Nick Roads layed down a suicide squeeze bunt that scored the winning run.

In the Pirate-Falcon Tournament, the junior went 3-for-3 with a solo home run and two RBIs in a 4-3 win over Riverside Poly and 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs in a 10-4 win over University City.

Falcons Defeat Pt. Loma 12-9
Falcon-Pirate Classic

The Falcons opened up the first inning giving up two runs on four hits to Pt. Loma falling behind 2-0. The Falcons ended up winning 12-9. Pt Loma made a late rally in the top of the seventh scoring six runs. The win goes to starting pitcher Jerrod Sabourin and the save goes to Walker Moore who was called in to get the final out. Scott Schneider went 3-4 with two doubles and four RBI. Eric Hillenbrand went 2-3 with a walk keeping his batting average at 800 on the season leading the State and San Diego section. The Falcons will face El Camino on Thursday and make up the rain out game against Carlsbad Saturday.

Falcons First Place in Palomar League

North County Tournament
The Torrey Pines Falcons Baseball Team remains 5-0 on the year. Quite an impressive start. The Falcons recently played a nine inning game against Ramona defeating them 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth innning. The Ramona pitcher threw a no hitter through seven innings. Torrey Pines finally broke up the no hitter in the bottom of the seventh. Reid Suitor pitched eight innings of two hit baseball. Eric Hillenbrand came in to pitch the top of the ninth with the score tied 2-2. Torrey Pines got Silvett and Hillenbrand on base in the bottom of the ninth. The Falcons then executed a double steal and then a failed suicide squeeze attempt got Silvett out at the plate advancing Hillenbrand to third base. Then Scott Schneider hit a RBI single over the left fileders head to score the winning run. The Falcons also defeated El-Camino earlier in the week 11-9. The Falcons will face San Marcos today at 3:15.

Falcons Bats Light Up Knights 14-3

North County Tournament
The Torrey Pines Falcons paid a visit to the San Marcos Knights in their second game of the North County Tournament. The Falcons bats came to life scoring fourteen runs. The first two coming in the first inning off of a two run blast over left field into the street by Walker Moore. Nic Renshaw also hit a monster home run. The entire team contributed with several doubles and singles. One exciting double was a bases loaded shot by Michael Wetherell after the Knights elected to give the intentional walk to Hillenbrand to load the bases. Eric Hillenbrand got his first start on the hill for Torrey this season giving up only one run for the win. Charlie Mintz, Gabe Rincon and Walker Moore came in relief. Kevin Silvett hit an enormous blast off the top off the center field wall and got two more stolen bases. Silvett leads the Palomar League with five stolen bases. Jerrud Sabourin also hit an opposite field double in the left center gap. The Falcons will face (5-2) San Pasqual at Torrey Pines this Friday at 3:15PM. The Falcons remain 6-0 on the season on top of the Palomar League.

Falcons Survive Eagles Scare....

North County Tournament
The Torrey Pines Falcons skirt past the San Pasqual Eagles 7-6 at home Friday. Kevin Vance started on the hill pitching five innings and giving up four runs. Scott Schneider was brought in the game in the top of the sixth inning with the score 7-4. The falcons gave up several walks to load the bases and giving the Eagles another run making 7-5 before getting out of the seventh inning. Schneider started the seventh and the bases were loaded again with two outs in the top of the seventh inning and Falcons Head Coach elected to go with Walker Moore to come in and get the save. Moore walked one additional run across making the score 7-6. Then with bases loaded one of the Eagles best hitters came up to the plate and with two strikes and two outs managed to get a fly ball out to left fielder Gabe Rincon. Walker Moore gets his third save in three attempts. Eric Hillenbrand continues his hitting streak hitting safely in seven games with zero strikeouts. The Falcons move to 7-0 on the year and will face Orange Glen on Monday then Vista on Wednesday. The North County Championship game will be played Friday at 6PM at Poway High School.

Moore 3-3 Save Attempts
Way to go Walker Moore for helping his team go to 7-0 on the season with his third save in three attempts in only seven games on the season. Tonights third save was considered a hard save coming into the game in the top of the seventh with two outs and the bases loaded. Moore walked one run across making it 7-6 then got a bases loaded fly ball to left fielder Gabe Rincon for the third and final out. Way to go Falcons.....

Tuesday, March 28
Torrey Pines Falcons Still Unbeaten
The Torrey Pines Falcons are off to a great start this season at 8-0. The Falcons defeated Orange Glenn yesterday 12-2. Jerroud Sabourin was the winning pitcher throwing six complete innings with Reid Suitor coming in the seventh. Walker Moore hit a three run homer over the right field fence. Walker also hit two doubles and got four RBI on the day. Eric Hillenbrand went 2-3 with 3 RBI and a walk. Hillenbrand has hit safely in all eight games this season with no strikeouts and leads the Palomar League with a Batting Average of 571. The Falcons now must face 5th ranked Vista on Wednesday for their last pool game of the North County Tournament. The Falcons need a big win and to keep the score down to advance to the championship game Friday night at Poway High. Should they advance they would face either Rancho Bernardo or Oceanside in the final. Torrey Pines and Fallbrook are the only two undefeated teams in their pool and it will be a tight finish to see who advances.

Falcons Fall To Panthers 5-4
The Torrey Pines Falcons suffer their first loss of the season to the Vista Panthers. It was a great game with Reid Suitor mastering all his pitches on the hill. Kevin Silvett hit a two run homer over the left field fence to give what should have been the Falcons the victory. In the bottom of the seventh the Falcons made several errors allowing the Vista Panthers to tie the game taking it into extra innings. The Falcons stumbled but it is often said it is better to lose early then lose late. The Falcons are determined to not let this defeat hold them down. Now onto our first league game against La Costa Canyon...

Classic Division of the 56th Lions Tournament

Marine Corps color guard presents the colors during the national anthem prior to the championship game of the Classic Division in the 2006 tournament. In an exciting finish, the championship was won by Torrey Pines High School, who overcame a 4-0 deficit to beat Thousand Oaks 6-4. The Classic Division championship is played at Point Loma Nazarene University, on one of the most beautiful baseball fields in the country.

The Falcons will look to defend their title as the 57th Annual Lions Tournament begins April 2nd - April 5th.

Walker Moore and Kevin Silvett Win Home Run Derby

62 entrants from throughout Southern California gathered for the 6th Annual Duke Snider Home Run Derby at Fallbrook HS.  The 1st place finisher earns $1000 for his school’s baseball program and the 2nd place finisher earns $500.  TPHS 3rd baseman Walker Moore (12) won the derby in a sudden death final with TPHS catcher Kevin Silvett (11) earning the baseball program $1500 (to be used toward field improvements).  Here is a round-by-round recap:

Falcons Remain Undefeated in Pirate-Falcon Classic
The Torrey Pines Falcons are off to a great start this season winning their second game of the season. The Falcons defeated University City 10-4 remaining undefeated on the season. Kevin Vance was the starter on the hill for the Falcons with Gabe Rincon and Jerrud Sabourin coming into the game in relief. The entire team hit the ball very well scoring six runs in the third inning and four in the fourth. The Falcons will face Carlsbad next in the Pirate-Falcon Classic on Saturday.
