Hopkinton 10s face Milford
7/22 : Hillers are the Tondorf Champs, beating Ashland 11-2!
Hopkinton and Ashland met for their final game of the Tondorf season, playing for the Championship. Both teams came out fighting, but Hopkinton's excellent pitching, offense and defense led them to the win at the end! Wesley Ericksen started pitching for the Hillers, and did a great job! Ashland was able to score one run in the first on a combination of two singles and an error, but Ericksen stayed focused and got himself out of the inning. In the bottom of the first, McMillan hit a single, but was left stranded. Hopkinton was down 1-0, but Hopkinton's fans were optimistic because the Hillers were hitting .. Ashland was just making good plays! In the top of the second, Ericksen returned to the mound, and with the help of the green defense, was able to shut down Ashland 1-2-3. Hopkinton was able to put three runs on the board - Braga and Sullivan drew walks, Dlugolecki and Guilmette knocked in Braga and Sullivan respectively. Decina was patient, and got on by balls, and Ericksen hit a grounder up the middle, but both were left stranded. Hopkinton 3-1. Ericksen continued in the third, facing only 4 Ashland batters - "Smidge" singled, but was left stranded. Hopkinton's offense started to show itself, and with a little help from Ashland's defense, were able to score 4 more runs. Doyle hit a double, Hamilton hit a towering home run ( #2 of the tournament season! ) and Guilmette hit a line up the middle. Hillers now up 7-1. Ericksen returned to get two quick outs. Ashland's #2 got a single, and later scored on a pass ball. With runners on first and third, the last batter grounded out. Hopkinton came back to the plate, and Doyle got a single up the middle, but was left stranded. Score 7-2. Moberg came in for relief for the Hillers, throwing some gas! Hopkinton shut down three batters in a row, two by strike out. Once again, Hopkinton's offense returned .. Hamilton added a double, Yaggy walked, Braga singled, Decina walked, and Ericksen and Doyle doubled. Hopkinton added 4 more runs to make it 11-2. Moberg returned to close the game, got the first two out. Ashland's #11 hit a double, but Moberg came back fighting, and got the last out by strike out! Congratulations to the Hopkinton 10s, the Champions of the Tondorf Tournament! It's not over yet - stay tuned for the results of the Playoffs in the Milford Tournament.
