NKTG Set To Make Outdoor Debut
On October 24th, 2001, NK Tomislavgrad took the field at the Air Athletics complex in Oakville Ontario (now called the Oakville Sports Centre) in their first ever indoor soccer match. After almost 6 years of soccer supremacy, a 57 game undefeated streak, well over 100 victories and 6 championship titles, NKTG will be making history yet again this coming Sunday!
June 17, 2007 will be remembered as the first ever outdoor game by the NKTG. The team will participate in the third annual KFC Cup against the Hamilton Croatia “B” team. The game will take place at Dofasco Park in Stoney Creek which is adjacent to the Croatian Centre on Green Mountain Road. The match will be part of the Hamilton Croatia 50th Anniversary festivities and will attract a huge crowd of fans.
Originally Oakville Hrvat was supposed to compete in the match but when they were forced to drop out, NKTG President Ivan Rados jumped at the opportunity to have the men in black take part in their first outdoor contest.
“This will be a huge game for the NKTG franchise,” Rados exclaimed. “After years of growing the team, we are ready to take the next step into the outdoor realm.”
Currently this is a one-time only game for NKTG but Rados did not rule out the possibility of fielding a team in the future. “We have not really discussed the future of fielding an outdoor team but we’re always open to the possibility. When you’re running a powerful brand like NKTG, you need to keep all options open and take the franchise to the next level.”
With many of the NKTG players already committed to outdoor games that day with Hamilton Croatia “A” and Toronto Zagreb, the team will welcome many former players and “friends” to the fold. Despite the losses, Rados promises a strong side that should compete well and make for a very entertaining game. The Hamilton Croatia “B” team is the two-time defending KFC Cup champions but NKTG is hopeful they can snatch the title and put it in the NKTG trophy case.
