A Message From The President of NKTG
Dear Loyal NKTG fans,
I would like to sincerely apologize for the fact we had no news on this site over the last season. Due to other commitments, I was unable to keep you updated on the latest happenings for NK Tomislavgrad.
NKTG won their 6th championship in December 2006 but failed to win the following two sessions. We lost in the finals of session 2 in February in penalty kicks to Hamilton Croatia Steelers. In session 3, a smaller number of NKTG players competed again but were upset in the semi-finals.
The team focused their attention this season on winning the 152 team league cup which was the largest soccer competition in all of Canada and spanned all three sessions. TG rolled into the final with an 8-2 drubbing of Red Star/Edukick in the semis and looked poised to win this illustrious trophy. Sadly NKTG lost in a controversial final that is still being protested (although a positive resolution is unlikely). With no registered referee, NKTG lost 4-3 to Adriatic after a goal by JJ Grubisic was called back in the final minutes and a blatant penalty shot was not awarded in the final seconds of the game. This was just two of many controversial calls in the game.
With that loss in early May 12th, NKTG now heads into the summer of 2007. Players from the team have now dispersed back to various Croatian soccer teams across Southern Ontario like they have every summer since inception.
What is next for NKTG?
Prior to the final session, I announced my retirement to the players of NKTG. After 6 seasons, I have decided to leave the team and let the stars of NKTG shine on without me.
Don't worry, I won't be too far. This fall will be the birth of the latest member of the NKTG franchise: NKTG Legends. Together with some original NKTG members like Milenko Cepo, Niko Peric and Ivan Busija, NKTG legends will debut in the fall of 2007. The team will play the same night as NKTG and likely around the same times. Legends will be composed of fellow retired NKTG members and will compete in a lower division.
The remaining players will hopefully continue to on the tradition of NK Tomislavgrad. They will hopefully continue to dominate the top weeknight division in Oakville.
With two smaller teams instead of one, the benefits will be more PT for everyone, more trophies for the franchise and bigger and greater parties at Monaghan's on Wednesday nights!
Also, this summer work is beginning on our new NKTG website. Be on the lookout for it by September. News on the new site will be posted here so check back this summer to read the latest.
Thank you,
Ivan Rados
