NKTG Wins 5th Championship!!!

April 30th 2003. NKTG walks off the field completing another perfect season and capturing their 4th consecutive title. The victory marked off a period of 51 consecutive undefeated game for the Club.
2 Years, 8 months and 11 days had past since that victory celebration. In that time NKTG saw their undefeated streak snap and their stranglehold on Oakville Indoor Soccer supremacy taken away. The team had suffered defeat in the 3 consecutive playoffs including two losses to the Oakville’s Finest. It had been too long of a wait. Almost 1000 days later, Tomislavgrad took to the field in hopes of recovering their title. To do so, the team would need to win twice in a single night, a feat NKTG had yet to achieve.
NK TG started off slow in the semi-final. The team looked very little like champs and more like a team that was expecting to win. The result was that Euro United got off to an early goal. The rest of the first half provided very little offense from the men in black who seemed dazed and confused. They went into half knowing they’d need a better performance if they were to rise to the top again.
TG came out much stronger in the second half and produced a multitude of opportunities. Finally TG was able to get on the board when Kory Jazbec finished off a fine team effort midway through the second stanza. TG would have a few other opportunities to win the game but was unable to get the go-ahead goal. The game would end tied 1-1 and for the second straight season, NK TG would end up in a penalty shoot-out in the semi final.
The shootout started great with Rob Biturajac making a big save. Bilic and Kory responded with a goals as did Euro United. When Silvano Rajkovic’s kick went high the teams were level again at 2 goals each with two kicks to go. Euro responded and scored on their next PK and Leo Marasovic also converted his. Then in the 5th round Euro United missed which opened the door for Ivan Grubisic to seal the deal. Cousin Ive buried the goal and the game was over. TG was once again moving on to the finals!
The final could not have been a better match-up as it pitted NK TG against their biggest rivals of all-time. Oakville’s Finest have for long been the thorn in the side of NK Tomislavgrad. Before Wednesday night, the teams had previously met 13 times with the head-to-head record deadlocked at 4 wins a piece along with 5 ties. This match would not only break the deadlock but also crown the new Oakville Indoor Soccer Champion.
The game was as evenly contested as a game could be. Both teams had great chances and at half the teams were deadlocked with no score. The fans new that one goal would surely be enough in this one. Ten minutes into the second half that goal finally came Leo Marasovic finished a beautiful chance to put NKTG up 1-0. From there it was up to the NKTG defense and the experienced goaltending of legendary keeper Rob Biturajac to secure the win. The whistle finally blew and NKTG were crowned Indoor Soccer Champions for a record 5th time!
The victory celebrations however had to be short-lived. NKTG must now prepare to defend their title in Session 2. While Oakville’s Finest have not returned, NKTG will face old foes Hrvatski Vitez along with newcomers Norval Croatia and DGS who have all stacked up to take down the champions. It will be the toughest and most competitive session ever but NKTG is ready for the challenge. Be sure to follow NKTG on their quest for yet another indoor soccer title.
