TG Rebounds In The Opening Playoff Round

Ever since the “Hand of Judas” goal, NKTG has been on a downslide. A week after losing hopes of getting first place in the league, the team responded with a win against the lowly Stunners. The game however was marred with bad news as TG saw their new ace striker Leo Marasovic go down early in the first half. The injury was thought to have been mild at first but now looks to have sidelined Leo for the season.
A week later NK TG was awarded a 3-0 default victory over the Oakville Strikers. It was the first default win on NK TG history but the week of no action looked to prove costly.
The team faltered greatly in the final two regular season outings against their two biggest rivals. First the team was defeated 5-2 by rivals Oakville’s Finest. It was a penalty filled game that saw a bevy of cards handed out and two NK TG players ejected. The suspensions did not help matters as the following week as an undermanned NK TG took on NK Hrvatski Vitez. The game was tied 1-1 until the final ten minutes when Tomislavgrad fell apart and ended up losing 6-2!
After two straight defeats to end their worst regular season ever, all NK TG could do is hope that the play-offs would bring new life to the team. The first round playoff draw took place immediately following the Vitez game and the first round and NKTG found themselves facing off against the Mississauga Falcons who finished 4th in the Premier league. It would be no easy task to open the post-season and TG knew it would require a much better effort than the one shown against Vitez.
As the game was about to begin, NK TG saw their line-up depleted yet again. The team saw many of it’s regulars absent including all the new signings from this session! The team started the game with only 7 players and was without many of their top goalscorers. Leading scorer Kory Jazbec however was there but was very fatigued after landing a few hours earlier from a wild weekend in Las Vegas.
Five minutes into the match, Nick Knez awoke from his coma to join the squad. His addition gave NK TG the same line-up that defeated Oakville’s Finest earlier this season. With Knez on board, NK TG wasted little time getting on the board as Kory Jazbec who was fresh off a weekend in Las Vegas set-up Milan Uzelac to take a 1-0 lead. The Falcons battled back and created a few chances but Rob Biturajac was solid in net and thwarted any efforts. Later in the first half Tomislav Bilic doubled the lead with a powerful strike and sent the loyal TG followers in attendance into a buzz.
The second half turned into a scoring outburst by NK TG that led by MVP Kory Jazbec. Showing no signs of jetlag, Kory burst out to one of the greatest halves in NK TG history. He assisted Nick Knez on 2 goals and scored 3 of his own! TG did give up 2 goals in the counter attack but it was an offensive onslaught that looked more like NK TG target practice. The final score was a 7-2 victory and a huge confidence booster for NK TG that now heads into the quarterfinals!
The quarterfinal match-up draw took place right after the game and NK TG was paired up against undefeated first division side the Black Knights. The time for that match will be 7:30 PM and the semi-finals and championship final will follow right after. All matches will be only 25 minutes in length. The full list of quarter-final match-ups is:
