Falcons Fly South
By Rob Turudic
NK Tomislavgrad went into Wednesday nights Oakville Premier League clash with the Mississauga Falcons knowing that a victory was vital in keeping their hopes for first place alive. With Rob Biturajac living in up in the Domincan, Frank Perin made his career debut in goal for NK TG!
Both teams came out on fire as the frantic opening minutes lead to numerous scoring chances for both sides. It was the Falcons who struck first on a mental lapse by the TG defence, grabbing the early 1-0 lead. Tomislavgrad continued to press forward but the spectacular goalkeeping by the Falcons #1 preserved their slim lead. Tomislavgrad went into the first half intermission shaking their heads down 1-0.
The second began much the same way as the first with both clubs flying at full tilt. With a brick wall in their net, the Falcons began to take some chances with their defence continuing to jump in on the rush. The tactic paid off as they doubled their lead early into the frame. With seemingly no answer to the goalkeeping heroics, the affair began to get choppy as the referee sent off a succession of TG players to the sin bin. It seemed that the size advantage TG had over their opponents helped the Falcons win over the sympathy of the referee. Having successfully killed off consecutive penalties, Tomislavgrad finally found a chink in the armour of the Falcons keeper, cutting the deficit in half on a strike from Leo Marasovic. With the Falcons on their heels desperately clinging to their slim advantage, Kory Jazbec levelled the game at 2-2 with a well struck finish from a George Andric feed.
With the game knotted at 2, the referee once again took charge of the affair. Leo Marasovic was called for his second penalty of the game followed by a mysterious call to Allan Perin. The TG defence held off the Falcon offensive and Leo Marasovic followed up with his second of the game giving Tomislavgrad a 3-2 advantage. As the game drew to a finish, Marasovic netted his third of the game, not only icing the victory but for his hat trick, winning a complimentary large pizza for the team!
NK Tomislavgrad next sees action on Wednesday March 23 at 11:15 PM in the highly anticipated derby encounter with NK Hrvatski Vitez. Tomislavgrad sits in second, 6pts behind Vitez with the two teams still meeting once more after this encounter. This is one you definitely don’t want to miss.
