Undermanned But Not Undetermined

Last night, NK TG looked for revenge against The Gents who defeated the team in the opening week of the season. On that night, NK TG was without a number of their key players including their goalie. It was an even more short-handed line-up that took the field in the re-match.
On Monday, the team was forced to placed Rob Turudic on the 40 day DL which means he will be inactive for the majority of what remains of the season. Milenko Cepo and George Andric were also unavailable for the game due to business trips. As a result, NK TG went into last night’s match-up with its smallest line-up in history. To make matters worse, a closure of the Toronto bound QEW meant that Tomislav Bilic would be delayed for the start of the match! Rados was forced to act quick and signed up Toronto Zagreb midfielder Darko Perkovic to a trial contract just prior to the match. In total, NK TG only had Rob Biturajac and 6 players to begin the contest.
Luckily for NK TG they were playing their only game of this session on Field 1 which was a smaller playing area and played 4 on 4. TG came out blazing and created a multitude of glorious opportunities. Finally Nick Knez was able to bank one in for the 1-0 lead. Bilic arrived midway through the opening stanza and energized the NK TG defence. Despite a few glorious scoring chances that were created, TG was unable to muster any more goals before the intermission.
The team started the second half poorly and gave up a costly goal early on. With the score knotted at 1, NK TG faced the prospect of dropping even more crucial points. That is when the team decided to turn it up a notch. Kory Jazbec blew in for an amazing solo effort and blast home the go ahead goal. A few minutes later, Nick Knez got his second of the evening to increase the NK TG lead. The rest of the half was marred with 2 minute penalties on both sides but much more against NK TG. Despite being a man down, TG was able to extend the lead when Jazbec scored his second of the evening. The goal will go down as one of the most memorable goals in NK TG history. After intercepting the ball in the midfield, Kory got on a clear breakaway when the referee clipped off his defender. It was then a 1 on 1 with the keeper. As the keeper advanced towards him, Jazbec banked the ball off the boards behind the keeper and right back to himself. He was then left with the simple tap in for the 4-1 lead as the keeper stood their stunned.
With only 5 minutes remaining, it looked clearly that NK TG would hold on for the win. The ref however had other ideas calling back to back questionable penalties and putting NK TG down 4-2! The team did concede 1 goal with the 2 man disadvantage but some stellar defender and impeccable goal-tending by Rob Biturajac kept the game at 4-2 and got NK TG back on the winning streak!
NK TG moved into a tie for 3rd place with the victory and will have their sites set on second spot in the table when NK TG take on the Mississauga Falcons next Wednesday night at 11:35 PM. The Falcon are 3 points up on NK TG so the victory would be crucial. Fan support would be great appreciated.
