STUNNED!
After a month that saw NK TG lose a couple matches and then pull off an amazing 3 game win streak against the 3 other teams in the playoffs, NK TG completed their regular season with a match against the lowly Stunners.
The match was meaningless for NK TG in that they were destined to finish either second or third and could not change any playoff positioning. The Stunners were merely playing for pride. The team had only 3 points (a win against Vitez) and was looking to save face against an NK TG team that had little to play for.
It was easy to overlook this match and that is in fact what NK TG did. Taking their opponents lightly, NK TG fell behind 2-0 very quickly to the shock of the many spectators in attendance. Kory Jazbec was able to pull one back to get TG to within 1 but the Stunners responded and scored a third before half-time.
In the second half, the Stunners kept the pressure on and scored quickly again to pull the lead to 4-1. The crowd was in shock and the mood on the TG bench was one of disgust. The team was able to gain a penalty shot a few minutes later which Rob Biturajac converted to make the score 4-2. The goal was significant in that made every player on the NK TG have at least 1 goal this season! Still Rob wanted more than a goal on his resume for the season, he wanted another victory.
TG then came out firing and were able to pull two goals back by JJ Grubisic in the final seven minutes of the game. The team kept pressing but it was too little too late as the final whistle blew. The team was able to salvage second place in the table with the point but the 4-4 draw was a moral defeat for the Club. The semi-final match-ups were determined later that night when Toronto Torcida defeated NK Hrvatski Vitez 13-5. That set-up of the final 4 looks like this:
(1) Oakville’s Finest vs (4) NK Hrvatski Vitez
(2) NK Tomislavgrad vs (3) Toronto Torcida
NK TG must now re-group and get their act together as they face a tough challenge in the final 4. There are few things though that point in NK TG favour heading into tonight’s match. The team is undefeated in their last 5 and has defeated the other three playoff teams in their last encounter. That is all history though. The team that will take the title will be the team that shows up tonight!
The semi-final goes at 8:30 PM tonight followed by the final at 10 PM. It will be an intense evening of indoor soccer action you most definitely will not want to miss.
