NK TG Prevails Through Tough Times
by Kory Jazbec
We all knew that NKTG had heart and determination through their successful consecutive championships but it was really shown in Wednesday's game against their derby counterpart, NK Karlovac. With veteran goalkeeper Rob Biturajac and defender Al Perin each out with 2 game suspensions and Ivan Grubisic on a sabbatical in Windsor, NKTG Coach Niko Peric had to do some serious re-shuffling in the lineup.
NKTG welcome for the first time, Chris Sliskovic, who earned his first cap with NKTG and provided some uplift to NKTG's scoring punch. Tomislav Bilic replaced Biturajac in net and Coach Peric placed last year's MVP, Kory Jazbec back on defense and J.J. Grubisic in the middle to help alleviate the loss of several key members. It definitely worked!!
NKTG came out on fire scoring an early goal by J.J. Grubisic on a beautiful feed by Geo Andric on a corner kick. Kory Jazbec had made it 2-0 early after by firing a shot past NK Karlovac's frustrated goalkeeper. You can see that NK Karlovac's players were shaking their heads with confusion while trying to figure out what went wrong. The score remained 2-0 at halftime.
NK Karlovac came out quickly and scored an early goal that really put NKTG back on their heels. Newly acquired Chris Sliskovic made it 3-1 with an accurate shot in the low corner. NKTG pressed for more but couldn't find the fourth goal. NK Karlovac made it 3-2 late in the game, however, it was too little too late as NKTG prevailed to record their first win of the season.
On another note, NKTG was poorly represented at Monaghans for post-game celebrations and Monaghans owner Bozo was thinking of pulling the sponsorship once news was heard that several unnamed members of NKTG stayed and had beers and nachos at the bar adjacent to the field. Bozo stated, "I will review the contract and will indicate where a breach has been made." NKTG President Ivan Rados was on-site in an attempt to negotiate with Bozo. It was a closed door meeting and Bozo made a late night news statement, "The situation is not yet resolved. I am calling an early morning emergency meeting with my Monaghans board members to discuss the situation thoroughly. We are going to examine all the facts and stories and will make a statement early next week."
Stay Tuned!!!
