Gotta' love our New England WEATHER!

TLL Commissioners (a.k.a. TLL Weathermen) will make decisions about whether to cancel a game 45 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the game, and the game status will be then be posted on the Hotline (See below for our Weather Cancellation Guidelines).

DIAL: 401-816-0626*

Press the the corresponding number to hear the cancellation status for your division:

2 -  Majors Baseball

3 -  Minors Baseball - AAA

4 -  Minors Baseball - AA

5 -  Prep Baseball

6 -  Tee Ball

7 -  Majors Softball

8 -  Minors Softball

*PLEASE NOTE:  we have modified a standard voicemail system for use as our weather hotline.  So...when you press your division number, the system will say "please leave your message for..." then you'll hear the Commissioner's cancellation status message, then a beep.  Please do not leave a message - they will not be heard!  AND...if possible, please hang up before the beep, or the system will fill up with "empty" messages.  Thanks for your cooperation!

TLL GAME CANCELLATION POLICY

A general rule of thumb is -- if the Weather Hotline message for your division doesn't say games are cancelled, or your coach has not called you to say the game is off, then you need to show up at the field...  Whenever possible, game cancellations will be posted on the home page of the TLL website.

 WEATHER HOTLINE:  401-816-0626

Every now and then, the weather gets a little messy here in New England, especially in April/early May.  We could get lots of rain….or even snow! (Heaven forbid).  The Division Commissioners are responsible for monitoring the weather and deciding whether games will be played each game day.  If games are canceled, the TLL Weather Hotline will be updated by the Commissioners with a cancellation message.  We will also make every attempt to place a note on the TLL website.  If there is no message on the hotline or the website – games are on!

We always want to get the games in, even if it means having a delay of 1/2 – 1 hour (taking darkness into account, of course).  Here are a few of the typical reasons why games should/will be canceled or delayed:

Ø Severe Weather Alerts/Warnings

·               If there is a thunderstorm warning or watch within one hour of game time, call the Weather Hotline to determine the status of your game.

Ø Rain

·               If it is raining and the fields are unplayable, the games will be canceled.

·               If a light rain is falling, games will probably be played unless field conditions are affected.

·               If a heavier rain is falling and fields are in a condition to play, a delay may be called by the Commissioner for up to 1 hour.  Players can wait out the delay in the dugout or vehicles.

Ø Field Conditions

·              If there has been heavy rain during the day and the afternoon/evening is sunny and nice, the games may be still need canceled due to field conditions.  Even if there are no puddles on the field, the playing area may be saturated such that playing on the surface may cause damage to the field.

·              If the rain stops but there is not adequate time to prep the fields before game time, games may be canceled, at the discretion of your Division Director.

Ø Lightning

·         Tiverton Little League follows Little League International’s guidelines on dangerous weather:

Should thunder be heard, or lightning be seen (or reported) within sight of the field, the umpire will call a 30-minute delay from the LAST lightning strike, to allow weather to clear and games to resume if possible.    Little League International bases these guidelines on NOAA recommendations.  A flyer is available at www.noaa.gov.

If the umpire is a child, a Board member (if present) or manager will make the decision to delay the game.  Finishing (or starting) a game should NEVER take priority over the safety of the spectators, volunteers, and players, even if the delay is longer than 30 minutes or a game must be postponed.
