2008 Try Out Information

Just a little note to all of you who are planning on trying out and returning for the 2008-2009 Cheer season.

If you are new and are interested in being on the Poway High School Cheer team please contact the school or send an email to Cparmk@aol.com and you will be contacted in a few days by the Cheer coach or advisor.

A parent meeting regarding tryouts and to receive your tryout packet is scheduled for April 28 at 6:30 p.m. Room K-1 at Poway High School. Please plan on attending.

Mandatory tryout workshops will be held May 5 through May 8 from 3:30pm to 5:30pm in the Poway High School wrestling room.

Tryouts will be held May 9, 2008 from 6-9pm in Room U-1 at Poway High School.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING TUMBLING SKILLS:

Junior Varsity: Please note that you may be scored on the followng tumbling skills -Standing handspring and Round off handspring. Working tucks and back handsprings are also valuable skills to have. There may be light spotting allowed with some of these skills.

Varsity: Please note that you WILL be scored on the following tumbling skills- Round off tuck, Back handspring (Light spot) and Working standing back spring. Fulls and layouts are also valuable skills to have. There may be light spotting allowed with some of these skills. 

 Cheerleaders who make the team will be notified May 9th in the evening hours. Please arrange to keep the next day, May 10 open as the girls who make the team will be attending a special event. This event will be different than last year.

Cheerleaders who make the team will also be invited to the first  Cheer event of the season on Sunday morning, May 11. Details will be provided later but please mark you calendars.

All Cheerleaders who make the squad will be required to attend practices beginning the week of May 12 through June 6, 2008.

Practices for Junior Varsity will be held on Monday and Wednesday from 3:15pm to 5:15pm.

Practices for Varsity will be held on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15pm to 5:15pm.

There may be practices scheduled for Friday afternoons as well.

Any returning cheerleader who makes the squad will have the week of June 8 off for finals and graduation. Incoming Freshman Cheerleaders will be required to practice the week of June 8.

All Cheerleaders will have June 14 through June 29 open. This is a good time to plan family vacations, events, etc.

Cheer practices will resume the week of June 30, 2008 with dates and times to be announced.

Other important dates to mark on your calendar: 

 Poway High School Cheer will be attending Camp July 24 through July 27, 2008.

Two-a-days are tentatively scheduled for August 6 through August 10, 2007 from 7-9am and 3-5pm.
