Poway High School Cheer 2014-2015

 

Dear Students and Parents:

Thank you for your interest in the Poway High School Cheerleading program. Tryouts for the 2014-2015 school year are quickly approaching. Students who are selected must be prepared to be leaders in their school and community as well as assuming additional responsibilities as a cheerleader.

The PHS Cheerleaders will receive many valuable and rewarding educational and athletic experiences that they will remember long after they leave Poway High School. These activities will not only channel their enthusiasm and spirit in a constructive and beneficial manner, but will give them a sense of pride and accomplishment in being a part of their team and their school.

To be able to participate in the tryout process, you must complete the online registration prior to the first day of workshops, complete all forms from this packet along with obtain a Ticket to Play. Please see the checklist at the end of this packet for further details.

In order to learn the tryout material a cheerleading workshop will be held over 2 days prior to tryouts. These workshops are a mandatory part of trying out for PHS cheer. These workshops will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday June 3rd and 4th from 4:00 to 6:00pm at Poway High School in room U-1 (small building between the gym and baseball field). Check in on June 3rd will begin at 3:30.

Each girl will be given a number during workshops and will be able to sign up for a tryout time on Wednesday June 4th during workshops. Final Tryouts will be held on Thursday June 5th at PHS in room U-1. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your time to allow time to warm up go over any last minute questions and to be sure you don’t miss your tryout slot in case things get ahead of schedule.

A list of girls who have made the squad will be posted by tryout number by Sunday night June 8th on the Poway Cheer website.

There will be a parent meeting for everyone who makes a team on Tuesday June 10th at 6:30 to discuss more specific details of the season (room TBA). Uniform fittings will be on June 23rd at 12:30 at Poway High (room TBA).

This summer we will be holding three camps to help prepare for the new season. These camps are being run by the PHS cheer staff and the Booster Club.

1st camp - week of June 23rd-27th

2nd camp - week of July 7th-11th

3rd camp - week of July 14th-18th

Specific days will be determined by the coaching staff ASAP and times will depend on if any girls are enrolled in summer school.

Mandatory season practices will begin on Aug 5th. We will go over more details and give out a calendar at the first parent meeting which will be held on Tuesday June 10th.

 VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR TRYOUTS:

 You must print out the "Ticket to Play" information from the Poway High School website and submit the completed information to the Athletic Office at the school BEFORE tryouts. The Athletic Office will be sure you have all the required information INCLUDING A CURRENT PHYSICAL EXAM ON FILE before giving you the TICKET TO PLAY.

YOU WILL NEED THE TICKET TO PLAY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE WORKSHOPS/TRYOUTS. NO EXCEPTIONS!

You also need to complete the paper Poway Cheer Tryout Forms, available from Ms. Gornall, and bring those to the  first workshop, Tuesday, June 3.

We are also asking that you enter some basic contact information online at:
