BOBCATS CODE OF CONDUCT
The Bobcats have appointed an Ethics Committee to administer a Code of Conduct. The Code has been developed to begin to cover everyone’s responsibilities but does not cover every possible situation. When administering the Code, the Committee will follow what has been formally approved and use their best efforts in those situations when required to exercise judgment.
The Committee is comprised of seven members; one representative from each of the five (5) major Bobcats activities; baseball, softball, cheerleading, soccer and flag football, plus one Board Rep and one At-Large Rep. The Committee meets as necessary to perform its functions.
The purpose of the Committee is twofold. First, the Committee recommends specific policies and procedures to the Board related to conduct and ethics as necessary for the functioning of the organization. Second, the Committee enforces existing policies and procedures related to conduct and ethics. As part of the Committee’s initial efforts, a general listing of infractions has been developed with recommended punishments. In addition to the organizational policies and procedures that affect all Bobcats’ activities, each Sport or Activity Commissioner maintains a comprehensive handbook outlining as many issues as possible for their particular sport or activity. Each handbook is updated no less than annually addressing any issue recommended by the Committee or encountered in the past year. Each handbook makes reference to the Bobcats’ Code of Conduct.
Any parent, official, coach or spectator at a youth sports event who believes that there has been a violation of the Code of Conduct may forward their name, address, phone number, date, location and nature of the violation. All complaints will be thoroughly investigated by the Commissioner and the Committee through the Board Rep, At-large Rep and/or the Rep for that particular activity. Routine matters are reviewed and decided after consultation among the Sport or Activity Commissioner, Board Rep and/or At-large Rep. In extreme matters, the Committee may be called upon to review the specific incident and make a speedy determination. Incidents with real or potential exposure of a risk management nature or those damaging to the Bobcats good name in the community always require swift and appropriate handling.
The Bobcats have also instituted an incident report form to record and memorialize all pertinent information for every reported incident, problem or alleged violation. Sport or Activity Commissioners ensure that all incidents regarding a potential violation of the Code are recorded and investigated. After this review and upon determination that a participant, coach, official, parent or spectator at any Bobcats game or activity has committed a violation, the Committee shall notify the violator identifying the warning and/or punishment to be taken in response to the violation. The Committee may suspend or place on probation anyone, including participants and/or coaches, from Bobcats activities for violation of this code.
The Bobcats want to ensure a safe and age appropriate environment for all their activities. Events in the world today have made these steps a necessity and the Bobcats have responded.
