Sunday, December 21 Head Coach: Jerry Lovett Coach Lovett started coaching in 1981 at the Junior level where he helped his father Jake Lovett, one of the founders of TJF, coach the Dolphins, one of the in house Jr teams at the time. He took over the Dolphins in 1982, then moved up to the Tornadoes in 1983 as the Running Back/Defensive Back coach under the guidence of Co-Head Coaches Nick Sarbanis and Dick Fugere. Upon the retirement of Coach Sarbanis in 1985, he became the head coach of the Tornadoes and president of TJF. In 22yrs as Head Coach, he has lead the Tornadoes to 10 playoff appearances, 2 league championship appearances, and over 90 victories. In 2006 he completed and passed the American Sports Education Program course Youth Sports Director and in 2007 the Coaching Principal course. Coach also serves as the Treasurer for Seacoast Jr Football League and prior to that served as the league Vice-Chairman for 4 years. A 1980 graduate of Timberlane Regional High School, Coach Lovett lettered in both football and basketball while at Timberlane. A two year starter in football, coach played defensive back and flanker and was a NH All State Honorable Mention in football in 1980. Coach is also a 1999 graduate of Northern Essex Community College. Sunday, December 21 Assistant Head Caoch/Defensive Coordinator Coach Ron Cormier: With 38 years of coaching experience under his belt, coach Cormier was a welcome addition to coaching staff in 2002. Entering his 7th year with the Tornadoes, Ron has proven to not only be a team leader and one of the mainstays on the coaching staff, but one of the most respected coaches in the league. Before coming to the Tornadoes, Ron coached for 15yrs in the Haverhill YMCA youth football league. From there he then went on to be the head freshmen coach at Haverhill High School for 17 yrs, during that time he had 7 undefeated teams. When Ron first started coaching with the Tornadoes he worked with the QB’s, but over the past 4 yrs has been working with offensive and defensive lines. Ron became the Defensive Coordinator/Ass Head Coach 3yrs ago. As defensive coordinator, the Tornadoes defenses have ranked at or neat the top of the league, giving up an averaging of only 10.5 points per game. Ron’s invaluable experience and knowledge goes beyond the defensive side of the game as he’s also been instrumental in helping the offense become one of the highest scoring in the league. Ron is a 1967 graduate of Haverhill High School and a graduate of Graham Jr College. Thursday, January 3 Varsity WR Coach Rob Williams Rob has been an interregnal part the Varsity coaching staff for the past 10yrs. As the wide receivers coach, Rob has helped to develop an outstanding corps of wide receivers over the years. Under his leadership and tutelage the wide receivers for the Tornadoes have consistently been at the top in the league in number of catches and YACs (yards after catch). Also for the past 4 years Rob has been playing for the Hamption Hurricanes a Semi Pro Football team at various positions. A graduate of Timberlane, Rob is one of several coaches who came up thru TJF and then returned to coach and help build the program to where it is today. With great sadness Rob retired this year from coaching but it is with high hopes that it’s not a long retirement and that Rob will return to the staff! Monday, February 18 JV Head Coach Jason Donahue Entering his 6th year, Jason is the youngest of the coaching staff but has used his youth and knowledge of the game of the game to become one of the most favorite coaches with the players. Having only graduated from high school 6 yrs ago, Jason’s ability to relate to the players has been invaluable. His ability to relate to and see things from a player’s respective has earned him high praise and respect among the players. Jason starting coaching with the Nor-Rock Vikings with his father Tom, who is the JV asst. head coach and the both, have proven to be a dynamic duo of sorts. After only 3 yrs with the Tornadoes, thru hard work and dedication to the team Jason was made the JV head coach in 2006. Along with the father Tom, they have brought stability and strong leadership to the JV team. In his first year as JV head coach, Jason led the team to an 8-1 regular season record. A 2002 graduate of Timberlane High School, Jason was on both the 1999 and 2001 Div II state championship football teams. His versatility as a player showed as he played quarterback, tight end, wide receiver defensive end and free safety for the Owls. Wednesday, December 26 JV Running Backs Coach Chris Mastriano As with Coach Coco, Chris has coached at various levels in the 6yrs he’s been a part of the Tornadoes. Starting as a flag coach and working his way up thru the program, Chris has proved to be invaluable with his knowledge of running back technique and game planning. In 2007 Chris moved up to the JV team, after having been the head coach for the Junior A Team and head coach of the Junior Maroon B team the previous year. A 1983 graduate of Timberlane, Chris was captain and on the 1982 Division II State Championship team. He holds the single season rushing record at Timberlane; was named NH Division II player of the year, and was a NH All Sate 1st team selection. He was also the Eagle Tribune Player of the Year and Haverhill Gazette Scholar Athlete. After high school, Chris attended and graduated in 1987 from Central Connecticut State University. Wednesday, December 26 Junior Line Coach/Defensive Coordinator Oscar Hoehn Coach Hoehn has been a part of the Tornadoes coaching staff for 4 years. Before that he coached for 5yrs at the Tenney Middle School in Methuen, Ma. He first started with Tornadoes at the flag level where he coached for 1 year, then moved up the Junior B where he stayed for 2 years and then in 2007 moved up to the Junior A team where he coached the offensive and defensive lines and was Defensive coordinator for the A team. His knowledge of line technique and play has helped to shape the future linemen for the JV and Varsity teams. His dedication to the players and his all round knowledge of the game of football has made him a highly valued member of the coaching staff. A 1977 graduate of Methuen High School, Oscar was played center for the football team. Thursday, January 3 Junior Line Coach Bob Radford In his first year with the Tornadoes, coaching the Jr A team offensive and defensive lines, after coming up from flag Coach Bradford proved to be a valuable addition to the staff. Having previously coached hockey for 10 yrs and 2yrs in baseball, Bob’s positive outlook and keen knowledge of the game was instrumental in helping the A’s turn their season around as they won their last 4 games after a shaky start. A graduate of Shepherd Hill Regional High School in Dubley, MA where he earned 3 Varsity letter, Bob went on to play for 4 yrs and graduate from Nichols College where he part of 1978 New England Football Conference Champions. Thursday, January 3 Junior Defensive Assistant Coach Curt Johnston Another 1st yr member of the staff, Coach Johnston not only brings a wealth of knowledge but a ton of experience with him. Having both played and coach in Eastern Football Semi-Pro football league, where he earned the defensive rookie of the year award, his knowledge of the game has made a very welcomed addition to the staff. A 1983 graduate of Westford Academy where he started for 3 yrs, coached earned the District E Athletic Directors and Athletic MVP Conference awards, and was captain of the Football, Wrestling and Track teams. Coach is also 1987 graduat from American International College where he started for all 4yrs he was there and earned defensive MVP award his sophomore year. Friday, January 4 Junior B Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator Dennis Gearty Having coached at both the Jr and Sr levels, Dennis rejoined the staff in 2007 after an 8 yr hiatus to watch his son Jamison play and graduate from Timblerlane. With 17 yrs worth of coaching experience, Dennis played an interregnal part in developing the Jr B team this year and was instrumental in helping lead the B team to their 1st ever B Rumble Championship. As defensive coordinator, the B team proved to be a very stingy team by only giving up an average of 8pts per game. Prior to coaching with the Tornadoes, coach Gearty also coached in Hampton Patriots league and was part of a 4 yr championship team. As part of the Sr Tornadoes coaching staff, Dennis helped to build one of the most formidable defenses back in the mid 90’s. A 1969 graduate of Billerica Memorial High and Dennis went on to graduate from Mass. Trades/ITT Tech College in 1972. |
