Sharks lose one to the fuzzy ball
It is with great sadness that the Sharks announce that longtime Shark Katie B. is taking the summer off from softball to focus on her tennis game. This is coming after completing a stunning freshman season for the Grissom Lady Tigers where she led the team in batting average (.404) and was named their MVP. Katie was also named to the All-Tournament Team in the Area Tournament at the end of the season. The Sharks are very proud of her accomplishments and wish her well on the hard courts. Although we do expect to see her back at some point because everyone knows that diamonds are an Ocho's best friend :-P

12U Sharks go 5-0 to win the 14U Fall Throwdown in Franklin, TN
Behind incredible pitching , near perfect defense and exceptional hitting the 12U sharks went 5-0 to win the USSSA fall throwdown in the 14U age division. There were numerous highlights to the weekend, including a pitching exhibition put on by Hilary. The defense was airtight with several highlight film plays made by Natalie. The Sharks won 5 straight games to win the tournament and qualify for the USSSA 2006 World Series. Over the 5 game span, the Sharks outscored their opponents 26-10. It was a complete team effort, with someone different coming up with a timely hit or awesome play in each game. It seemed like Katie led off every game with a hit while putting on a bunting and slap hitting clinic. M.C. had a number of RBIs for the weekend and Sally and Emily each had 2 RBIs in the semi-final game. Stephanie came in to make the game ending catch in the semi-final. The Sharks beat a formidable Middle Tennesse High Voltage team for the second time in as many days in the final by a score of 3-0. Hannah made the final out of the tournament, ranging to her left at third to cut off a soft fly-ball in front of Natalie. Overheard after the game, Natalie said, "hey, that was mine!"

In their last tournament of the summer, the Huntsville Sharks earned the 2nd place trophy in the ASA Blues Bash II in Decatur, AL. This tournament was a great opportunity for the Sharks in getting to play the NSA Class-A State Champions and the 2nd place, Huntsville Sparks. The Sharks had to beat the Sparks to advance to the championship game and they did so in a tight one, 7-6. The Sharks appreciate the support they received this tournament from Lindsey, Natalee, and Sara. These girls blended quickly to help make us a better team.
This tournament was also a unique opportunity for Natalee in that she was playing her first fastpitch softball. She's been playing baseball all her life and has decided to switch to softball and we're glad she did. Natalee did an excellent job filling in for the Nat who had broken her thumb in the USSSA State tournament the weekend before.
