Tierrasanta Rules
SECTION 1- OFFICIAL RULE BOOK


1.1 SAFETY FIRST - The referees may blow the whistle and stop the game to investigate the condition of a player who might be hurt, at any time, and resume play as soon as reasonable. The safety and well being of our players is always our main concern.
1.2 FORFEIT TIME - Ten minutes after scheduled game time is forfeit time. Teams may start 4 players.
1.3 COACH”S BENCH - All coaches shall remain within their coaching box during the contest. No coaching from outside this area. The head coach is responsible for all proper conduct from the bench and team spectators.
1.4 TEAM BENCH – Teams must warm up on the opposite side that they designate as their team bench.

SECTION 2 - LENGTH OF PLAYING PERIODS
There will be four (4) ten-minute periods for all divisions. The 1st and 3rd period will be a running clock The 2nd and 4th periods will be stop clock mode. Half time will be 5 minutes.

SECTION 3 - THE CLOCK
The clock will be stopped during the last two (2) minutes of the 2nd and 4th periods , on all dead ball situations for all divisions with the following exceptions.

Boys 3rd / 4th and Girls 3/4/5 - If there is a point difference more than 15 points in the 4th period the clock will continue to run unless there is a shooting foul or timeout called.

Boys 5th / 6th ; 7th / 8th and Girls 6/7/8 - If there is a point difference more than 20 points in the 4th period the clock will continue to run unless there is a shooting foul or timeout called.

SECTION 4 - OVERTIME PERIOD
Overtime periods will consist of one (3) minute period. The first two minutes will be a running clock. The clock will be stop clock mode the last minute of the overtime period and will stop on dead ball situations. NOTE: If a game is still tied after 1 overtime, then game will go as a tie. Playoffs excluded….

SECTION 5 - TIMEOUTS
Each team will be allowed two (2) timeouts in each half. The timeouts shall be taken in their respective halves or they will be lost (no accumulations). One additional timeout will be granted to each team for each overtime period.

SECTION 6 - PLAYER PARTICIPATION

Every player shall play two full continuous periods and sit one full period. The only exception is in case of injury or health problems; which must be communicated to the official scorer.

PLEASE NOTE THAT IF ANY TEAM ONLY HAS ( 6 ) PLAYERS TO START THE GAME, THEN THE REQUIREMENT THAT EACH PLAYER MUST SIT A FULL PERIOD IS NOT IN EFFECT FOR EITHER TEAM. THE COACH NEEDS TO COMMUNICATE TO THE OPPOSING COACH THAT HIS/HER TEAM IS SHORT !!!!

EVERY PLAYER ON EACH TEAM MUST STILL PLAY 2 FULL PERIODS.

If a player arrives late to the game, that player's participation begins at the start of the next full period.

Example: If player arrives shortly before the end of the 1st period, then he/she must play two full periods.
Example: If player arrives shortly before half-time and before the start of the 3rd period he/she must play one full period. Players arriving during the 3rd period are not required to play at all.

Before the beginning of each period the players from each team must check in at the score table. Their number and period played will be recorded in the official book. Coaches may make substitutions at any time during the game. The player will check into the score table and he/she will notify the scorer who they're going in for: The scorer will erase the player # who is being substituted for. Neither player will get credit for a full continuous period played.

EXCEPTION: The substituted player was pulled from the game because of injury or illness; in this event he/she will get credit for the full period.

THE COACH HAS ( 2 ) OPTIONS:

COACH MAY SUBSTITUTE ANY PLAYER THEY WISH, The player will not be credited with sitting out a full quarter.

COACH MAY OPT FOR THE OPPOSING COACH TO PICK A PLAYER AS A SUBSTITUTE: The player will be credited with sitting out a quarter. The player still must play his/her 2 full quarters.

If a player fouls out or must leave to go home before the end of the game for whatever reason and has not completed his/ her minimum playing requirement then the Coach or Asst Coach must communicate to the official scorer of the situation and the minimum required time will not be in effect. IF A PLAYER FOULS OUT - Please refer to the ( 2 ) options above...

The only exception is in case of injury or health problems; which must be communicated to the official score.

THE PLAYER PARTICIPATION RULE MUST BE STRICTLY ENFORCED


If a player must leave to go home before the end of the game for whatever reason and has not completed his/ her minimum playing requirement then the Coach or Asst Coach must communicate to the official scorer of the situation and the minimum required time will not be in effect.

Penalty: If a team does not comply with the player participation rule, the offending team will forfeit the contest. It is the responsibility of the coach to make sure ALL PLAYERS have played 2 full Periods and have sat 1 full period. A protest shall be done properly, in good judgment, and after all attempts to rectify the situation fail. The protest must be entered in the official scorebook at the conclusion of the game. The Coach will be notified by the League Official and a decision will be rendered within three (3) days following the game. The League reserves the right to discipline the coach, not excluding a suspension.

6.1 SICKNESS INJURY, OR HEALTH PROBLEMS - If a player becomes sick, or injured, and is unable to continue during a game, the coach of the player shall enter in the score book, the player’s name, number, time, and period. The player will be ineligible to re-enter the game. No penalty will be assesed. If a player is injured or experiences some health difficulty and is temporarily removed during a game. the player will be eligible to re-enter the game at the discretion of the coach and the game referee. If a player receives an injury that bleeds, then that player will be removed from the game until the bleeding has stopped and the wound bandaged. The partial period of play will constitute one full period for the injured player who was removed.

6.2 DISCIPLINE - If a player misses consecutive practices without an excuse the coach will notify the parents of the player. If this continues the coach will notify the League official and the player will not be eligible to participate in the next scheduled game.

7.1 PERSONAL FOULS - Boys 3/4 , Girls 3/4/5 Each player is allowed 6 personal fouls before they are ejected from the game. Bonus is on the 6th team foul per half with a double bonus on the 10th.

Boys 5/6,7/8, Girls 3/4/5 Each player is allowed 5 personal fouls before they are ejected from the game. Bonus is on the 7th team foul per half with a double bonus on the 10th.

Boys 3rd-4th - Boys 5th-6th grade & Girls 3rd-4th-5th grade
DEFENSE - Teams may play zone or man defense at any time during the game.
Girls 3rd-4th-5th grade - Defenders must stay within the 3 point Arc.

Full-Court Press – B3/4 & G3/4/5 No full-court pressure except during the last two (2) minutes of the 2nd and 4th periods. EXCEPTION MERCY RULE. B 5/6 Full-Court Press allowed during the last Five (5) minutes of the 2nd and 4th periods. EXCEPTION MERCY RULE. Penalty: Only one warning per half will be given to the teams for any illegal back-court or front-court press. A technical foul will be given for continued pressure in each half. If unintentional defense occurs in the backcourt, the referees will award the ball to the offense at the point of contact with no warning to the defense. This is a judgment call from the referees.

Half Court Press- B 3/4 & 5/6 Teams may half court press at any time. Exception : MERCY RULE

MERCY RULE : A team with a 20 point lead at any time may not HALF-COURT or FULL-COURT: Defenders must stay within the 3 point Arc.


Five (5) Second Violation: An offensive player may not be in the key for 5 seconds or more

Free-Throws : Each player will shoot at least one free-throw prior to the start of the game. Each successful free-throw will be recorded in the scorebook and count in the team's overall score. Referees will administer the free-throws, one referee per team. Both teams will shoot the free-throws at the same time, but at different baskets. A player who has missed will be allowed to shoot an extra shot to balance the team attempts, if necessary.

A shooter’s foot may touch or cross the line, along as they are not making an attempt to gain an advantage while rebounding.

Boys 3/4 , Girls 3/4/5 -The free-throw line will be at the 12-foot line.
Boys 5/6 Regulation free-throw line.

Girls 6th-7th- 8 th grade - Boys 7 th - 8th – grade

DEFENSE - Teams may play zone or man defense at any time during the game.

Full-Court Press –         Girls 6/7/8 Press is allowed during the entire 2nd and 4th periods. EXCEPTION MERCY RULE.
Boys 7/8 Full-court pressure allowed any time: EXCEPTION MERCY RULE.
Half Court Press- Teams may half court press at any time. Exception: MERCY RULE

MERCY RULE : A team with a 25 point lead at any time may not HALF-COURT or FULL-COURT press
Defenders must stay within the 3 point Arc.

Three (3) Second Violation: An offensive player may not be in the key for 3 seconds or more.
