June 13th

Semi-Final Win vs. Oregon City

A very tired 6 man squad of Megan Buster, Lynette Lewis, Kaira Ludwig, Elise Nelson, Kayla Ping,  and Kelli Rice found the guts and mental toughness to finish their 3rd game of the day with a big time victory over 6A State Champions, Oregon City.  The Colts trailed for most of the game with the largest defecit occuring in the 2nd half of 6 points.  After a time-out the Colts found a little extra in them to lock up defensively and handle Oregon City's pressure.  With three minutes to go in the game Kayla Ping grabbed a rebound kicked the outlet ahead to Elise Nelson who finished the drive to put the Colts up by two.  After a defensive stop, Kelli Rice made two free to extend the lead to four.   Oregon City scored on a drive on the next possession, but Rice responded with her own driving, falling backward finish to maintain the four point lead.  The Colts capped it off with some clutch free throws to beat Oregon City, 45-37.  Elise Nelson finished the game with 13 points, Kelli Rice had 13 and Kayla Ping had another double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds.  The Colts face Jesuit on Sunday, 12:45 pm at Bend High School for the Championship.

Day 2 proved to be a day of defense and handling the basketball.  Thurston Black Team opened up the day with Tualatin.  Thurston was not about to back down to the Pacific Conference 6A champions from 2008-09.   The Colts took a 2 point lead into half-time.  In the second half the Colts continued to handle the Tualatin Timberwolves' full-court trapping defense and won 34-32.  At one point Thurston was behind by 5 in the second half, but free throw shooting and finishing on the press break the last five minutes allowed the Colts to hang on for the Victory.   Elise Nelson and Kayla Ping lead the Colts with 12 points a pierce.
