Bat Rule Clarification
Dear Board Members & Area Presidents,
After a discussion with Kirk last night, and conducting a review of the new bat rules, I wanted to take a moment to clarify any concerns. The following is a clarification of the bat rules as written by Babe Ruth National:
Cal Ripken Division: All bats must be stamped with the “BPF (Bat Performance Factor) 1.15” in order to be used in the Cal Ripken Divisions. This includes all composite barrel bats.
13-15 Prep: Only composite barrel bats certified and marked BBCOR .50 will be allowed. All aluminum/alloy barrel bats and all composite handle (only) aluminum/alloy barrels are allowed. Wood barrel bats conforming to the specifications of Official Baseball Rule 1.10 are allowed.
In other words, the aluminum/alloy barrel bats and all composite handle (only) aluminum/alloy barrel bats do not require a BBCOR .50 stamp, only the composite barrel bats require the BBCOR stamp.
There are no weight restrictions on the aluminum/alloy barrel bats. BBCOR composite barrel bats must meet the -3 weight criteria. As I stated at the league meeting, please get this information out to your areas as soon as possible!
I hope this clears up any confusion.
Todd

COMPOSITE BAT RULE CHANGES
RULE CHANGES:
COMPOSITE BATS: The International Board of Directors of Babe Ruth League, Inc. has approved a moratorium on the use of composite bats in the Babe Ruth Baseball 13 ~ 15 and 16 ~ 18 Divisions, effective immediately. The moratorium shall be in effect until further notice by Babe Ruth Headquarters.
The moratorium will follow the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), based on a recommendation from its Baseball Rules Committee. The NFHS Board enacted a rule to prohibit the use of composite bats until they can produce compliance with the standards through the life of the bat. If a composite bat is legal/approved under the NHFS rule for the 2011 season, it is legal for use in the Babe Ruth Baseball 13 ~ 15 and 16 ~ 18 Divisions for local league play and tournament competition.
Composite bats that are certified by an approved independent testing laboratory as meeting the current Ball Exit Speed Ratio (BESR) and the Accelerated Break-In (ABI) procedure will be eligible. For a list of composite bats approved for the 2011 Babe Ruth Baseball 13 ~ 15 and 16 ~ 18 Divisions, please click here.
At present, the moratorium on composite bats does not apply to the Cal Ripken Major, Minor, Rookie and T-Ball Divisions, nor does it apply to any division of Softball.
Our goal is to provide our local leagues clear direction regarding the 2¼” barrel composite bats, and which ones meet the standards for the Cal Ripken Divisions, if any, as soon as possible. We hope to have information in the very near future.
OK: The near future has arrived. As of 02/26/2011 here's what we know:
Composite Bats - Cal Ripken Division
We have received the following clarification regarding the bat moratorium in all Cal Ripken Divisions:So long as a bat is 2 ¼” in diameter, it is approved for Cal Ripken play, regardless as to whether or not it has a certification stamp on the barrel of the bat or not. In other words, all older bats, and bats purchased during this off season, so long as they have a 2 ¼” barrel, are now legal for play at all levels of Cal Ripken!
Babe Ruth is currently working with the bat manufactures to come up with an established standard for bats in the Cal Ripken division for implementation in the future.
The guidleines established for composite bats used in the 13-15 Prep Babe Ruth divisions remains in effect.

Sponsorships
PLAYER SPONSORSHIPS:
SPONSORSHIPS: Babe Ruth Baseball is known for its quality. Willamette Valley Babe Ruth, in particular, is known to maintain the highest quality playing fields, to retain some of the best coaching instruction, and to present a quality of play inferior to none. Cooperation and sponsorships from local businesses have made this a reality. Now more than ever, player sponsorships are important to sustaining the high quality of baseball this area is known for.
For those unfamiliar with the sponsorship system in place, here's how it works:
1) For a $250 tax-deductible donation, businesses (and private citizens) receive a sponsor posting on our website and a 3' x 5' banner. Each banner is emblazoned with the business logo and name and proudly displayed on the outfield fence of our home field located at Thurston Middle School. Businesses who make a $250 donation will also help their sponsored player to individually receive HALF off of their player fees.
2) For a $500 tax-deductible donation, businesses (and private citizens) receive a sponsor posting on our website and a 3' x 5' banner. Each banner is emblazoned with the business logo and name and proudly displayed on the outfield fence of our home field located at Thurston Middle School. Businesses who make a $500 donation will ensure that their sponsored player will play the 2010 season for FREE.
3) For a $750 or $1,000 or larger tax-deductible donation, businesses (and private citizens) receive a sponsor posting on our website and a 6' x 8' banner. Each banner is emblazoned with the business logo and name and proudly displayed on the outfield fence of our home field located at Thurston Middle School. Businesses who make a $750 or larger donation will ensure that their sponsored player will play the 2010 season for FREE.
Player sponsorship letters are available via the "Forms" link. Tax ID number is located on the letter.
We encourage all players to reach out and contact local businesses that they do business with regularly. Please also see the attached form labeled as, "2011_Sponsorship Letter." Players who received specific sponsorships from respective businesses during the 2010 season have the first option to retain that sponsor. If you have any questions about the sponsorship program, please contact an executive board member.
