Looking for the Right Team???
Rotating Soccer Ball
The Thunder U-11 boys team may be looking for you too! We are looking for two or three experienced travel soccer players to round out our improving team. Over half our team has been together since our U-8 playing days. We started in the NCSL Division 4 during the Spring of 2001 and moved to Division 3 for the Fall of this year. We will be moving to Division 2 for the spring of 2002. The team has had good success in tournaments as well. Coach Steve Castro has played soccer throughout his life and currently carries a Class C license. He is a teacher of soccer and is patient. His goal is to build each players individual ball skills, putting players first over winning. As they get older, winning games and working as a team to attain higher division play will come naturally. If you are an experienced player and are interested, contact Coach Steve Castro at (410) 489-6606 or e-mail him at sjcastro@erols.com for more information.

Thunder U11 are Finalists in the Bethesda Thanksgiving Tour.
BSC 2001 Logo
The TSC Thunder U11 Boys continued their outstanding success this season finishing strong in the Chesapeake Division of the Bethesda Thanksgiving Tournament. The team tied their first game 0 -0 against a very good defensive team from Montgomery PA. In the second game the boys kicked in the offence beating the Bethesda team 6-1. In a must win game to take them to the finals the boys decisively beat a very strong Blackwatch Dundee from New York 4-0. In the final game the team fell short 3-2 to the physically strong and fast South Brunswick New Jersey Blaze.

The boys won the Hershey Park Tournament, were finalist in the Washington Fall Classic and finished second in Division 3 in the NCSL for a very successful year. They have a lot to be proud of and we are sure will do well in second division of the NCSL next year.

Team Loses in Semi-Final of GHSC Tourney 2001
GHSC 2001 Logo
Thunder entered the Greater Harford Soccer Club's Columbus Day Invitational with high hopes of a successful tourney. The team had a good first day with wins over an always strong host team the GHSC Panthers (1-0) and the SAC Blue Devils (5-0). The second day presented the team with an always superb opponent in the Redland SC. Unfortunately, unlike the Thunder Hershey Tournament win, Redland came out and beat the Thunder soundly (1-3). Redland was well prepared in exhibiting good teamwork, a solid short passing game on a small field and excellent work in the goal by their keeper. Hopefully the Thunder learns that because you beat a very good team once, that it does not insure a win the second go around. Only solid teamwork and good passing (skills) will carry the day against a good team.

Thunder takes 2nd in Washington Fall Classic
The boys did a great job beating some good teams to make it to the finals of the Washington Fall Classic. They looked like they were going to beat a great team from PA, but ran out of steam in the last 15 min. to loose 2-1.

Will, Taylor, Michael, Stephen and Colin played in the 3v3 Regionals in East Brunswick, NJ. By winning the consolation bracket they qualified to play in the Nationals at Disney World, FL in January 2002. The boys came on strong in the second day of competition to earned the qualification. There was not a weak team in the division and a lot was learned by the team and it's substitute coach. Every game was close.

Thunder Wins Hershey 2001 Championship
Hershey 2001 Trophy
The Thunder U-10 boys won the Premier Division of the Hershey Wildcats Summer Invitational 2001. The team scored 17 goals while only letting in 4 by the competition which resulted in four wins and one loss for the tournament. This by far was the best overall effort put out by team this season. With rain on Saturday and heat on Sunday, they're intensity and confidence never wavered. Thunder was fortunate to earn a wild card slot in the semi-finals only to learn that they were to face Redland whom everyone picked to win the tournament. The team took their good fortune and went into the game against Redland with a will to win. Redland had not been scored on in their previous three games of the tournament. Thunder scored two solid goals in the first half and played solid defense in the second half to win the game. From there they moved into the championship to beat Super NOVA by a score of 2-1 and win their first Premier Division tournament championship. This was a fantastic end to the team's spring season and their 7 vs 7 playing days. The team will now take the lessons learned and move to the big field in the fall with 11 vs 11 play.

The Thunder U-10 were represented in the Brian Hunt 3v3 Tournament by Will, Stephen C., Jamie and Ross. The boys represented Thunder well by crushing their first three opponents and then losing a close game in the finals to a tough Freestate team. They came away with a well earned 2nd place in the tournament.

Thunder Plays Well in Bethesda Tourney
Bethesda_1.jpg
Thunder 91 played hard in making a good showing in the Blue Group of the Patriot Division of the Bethesda Thanksgiving Tournament. With a record of two (2) wins and one (1) loss, they just missed making the title game. Solid and unselfish passing provided many scoring opportunities for the team. The boys continued their path of improvement in playing as a team and will continue their efforts over the winter while playing in the indoor league and playing a few outdoor scrimmages when wheather permits.

Thunder Places 2nd in Harford Tournament

Thunder showed some of their best soccer of the season in placing second in the U-10 division of the Greater Harford Columbus Day Tournament. With wins over very solid clubs like Bel Air and Greater Harford and a tie versus Fallston, Thunder gained the privilege of playing Takoma Park in the championship final. After taking an early lead, Thunder lost in a heartbreaker 2-3. The weekend proved to the boys they can play premium competition and do well. They are looking forward to playing Takoma Park once again.
