STRIKERS PHILOSOPHY (click here)Formed in 1998, the Howell United Strikers provides an environment that encourages learning and enjoyment while promoting and instilling good sportsmanship and fellowship among all players, coaches and parents through principles of honesty, discipline and fair play. The objective of the team is to provide a FUN environment where the players can learn to play soccer at a high level while feeling free to take risks and express themselves creatively on the field.
Our developmental philosophy during U7 through U10 has been to give all the players playing time in different positions, including goalie, thus creating a “soccer player” instead of a position. While this philosophy has sacrificed success in the win/loss columns, it has enabled our team to increase our overall individual skill and playing level a great deal higher than other teams.
We currently have 15 players that can play anywhere on the field including goalie. During this current Spring U11 season, we put more of a focus on playing players more to their strengths, and with that, our success on the field has sharply increased. As we approach U12, the team will be focusing even more on position-specific training without losing the focus of the full-field vision to further enhance our on field success.
The team practices two to three times a week during the season and plays in 4 to 5 Premier Tournaments each year. The team takes most of the summer and winter off, but does offer optional tournaments, programs and events to those that want to participate during those “off” seasons.
We are looking for players that wish to join a team that focuses on playing soccer at a high level, encourages risk taking and where all players dedicate themselves to the team and to fun. It is not a prerequisite to be currently playing at the premier level to tryout, because as we have proven, many players have the ability to play high-level soccer, but have never been given the means or opportunity to do so. We would also prefer to find a full-time goalie as our current goalies have also proven to be equally invaluable on the field.
